Art Week Tokyo 2026 brings together 56 museums and galleries from across Tokyo! NATIONAL ART CENTER, TOKYO: SHOJO MANGA INFINITY: MOTO HAGIO, RYOKO YAMAGISHI, AND WAKI YAMATO 国立新美術館での70年代少女漫画のレジェンドによる「少女漫画・インフィニティ 萩尾望都×山岸凉子×大和和紀 三人展」も個人的に外せません」 “The international art exhibition Tokyo Atlas, which I am directing and is on view during Art Week Tokyo, seeks to map out an unknown Tokyo. In line with that theme, I recommend viewing exhibitions that showcase local color and architecture: the ambitious The Constitution of Japan 2026, held in a postwar-era wooden building at Mujin-to Production and also at Aoyama Meguro; the long-awaited solo exhibition of Nobuko Tsuchiya in the former public bath of SCAI The Bathhouse; and the two-person show of Taro Masushio and Sophie Nys at XYZ collective in Sugamo. Also, I personally can’t leave out the exhibition of 1970s shojo manga legends, ‘Shojo Manga Infinity: Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato’ at the National Art Center, Tokyo!” by @artweektokyo

“The Constitution of Japan 2026 provides an opportunity to rethink the constitution through unexpected pairings of its articles with artworks. I’ve also chosen exhibitions by Natsumi Aoyagi, who explores the possibilities of words; Erika Verzutti, Miho Dohi, and Alicja Kwade, who each question sculpture, materiality, and space through distinct approaches; and Ann Veronica Janssens, who unsettles our perceptions using light, color, and space. Being able to tour such a diverse array of exhibitions across Tokyo all at once is what makes Art Week Tokyo so fun.” by @artweektokyo

The bold display in Taichung, which incorporated reproductions of artworks, was incredibly stimulating and unexpectedly evoked the sense of distance characteristic of the early 20th century. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this sweet, poignant exhibition takes shape in Tokyo today, especially after everything we’ve been through in the years since. I made my selections with the idea of gallery-hopping around this central exhibition. Where space and time, human interactions, reality and dreams, and poetic sentiment overlap...perhaps we might witness the emergence of yet another ‘Synchronic Constellation.” by @artweektokyo
