Hi! 👋🏽 I’m Rhea! Since a lot of you are new here, I thought I’d do a quick intro!

I’ve been working in the arts for just over 4 years now & I’ve held a lot of different titles but my favourite is art writer. I mainly cover exhibitions in London & Delhi, but I’m always looking for artists and stories across the world.

I also have an MA in Critical Theory from @lifeatkings and love reading everything from 📚 classics to art theory to comic books & graphic novels.

This page started with books but over time has grown into a space where I talk about stories in both art and literature.

Must visit museums and galleries in London #3

The Victoria and Albert museum!

Built in 1857 as the Museum of Manufactures, this museum has a long history not just attached to the pieces in the museum but the fabric of the museum itself.

I’ll share more information about the museum in a part 2 of this video.

Which details in an Impressionist painting are worth reflecting on? Here’s a little guide on where my eyes are going looking at these canvases.

There will always be work you like and work you don’t like but you won’t truly know until you try to look closely.

There’s a lot of hate for Renoir online so this is a bold exhibition for the @nationalgallery to do. That too, at the same time as the RA’s French Riviera, tough competition!

Preempting the winter gloom ❄️ the Royal Academy has brought the Mediterranean to London.

This exhibition is a riot of colours and an ode to the creativity that comes from collaboration. It’s also an amazing opportunity to see all these paintings in one space.

Spent an evening at CMYK so I didn’t have to choose between going to an art gallery or bookstore.

Located in Meharchand Market, this art & design bookstore is showcasing original lithographs and etchings by Picasso, Miró & Dalí till 22nd November. The works have been placed around the spiral staircase as you go up, but there’s also a dedicated top floor, bringing it to a grand total of 60 original prints.

Full disclosure, I was invited to the press preview for which they had a print making workshop, so I got a little behind the scenes on how some of these works came to life. I also ate a tiny chocolate ganache (something) which was really good!

New art exhibition in Delhi!

Curated by @__khushboojain__ , ‘Where the River Bends, I Begin Again’, brings together 21 miniature paintings along with 3 large tapestries. By placing @feroza_hakeemofficial’s works on plinths, she creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, akin to walking through a garden.

The paintings encompass vast valleys and mountains, cedar and apricot trees and focus on the act of renewal and resilience. The artist actively resists the visuals of destruction in her serene landscapes, in a hope to create the peace she hopes to witness.

Open till 23rd Oct at @pristinecontemporary near Defence Colony.

If you’re in Delhi, you have to go see this one for yourself!

@naturemorte_india has moved from Dhan Mill to Gulmohar Park and inaugurated their new space with an exhibition series titled The Evolution of the Soothsayer.

Part 1 is on view till the 10th of October, with 17 artists in conversation. In the next part, artists like @jitishkallat, @tallurln and @subodhguptastudio also join the mix.

Memory, trauma and home are probably the most reflected on themes in modern and contemporary art.

Why is it that we’re all lost between the past and the present? @arpitaakhanda’s work is a beautiful reflection on this condition we find ourselves in.

The woven paper casts a nostalgic gaze at what was. It is intertwined with her grandparents’ struggle during the partition and refers to their need for anonymity for survival.

She puts the pieces of this story together in a way that includes us all, as we all piece our own histories.

Arpita’s series ‘A Veil of Memories’ is part of ‘Mool’ at @exhibit320.

Scanning through the newspaper yesterday, the only art news I could find was @shashitharoor talking
about the weaponisation of Section 299 of the BNS - an outdated law that makes publishers, artists and gallerists choose ‘safer’ art over making a statement, for fear of the legal consequences.

The freedom to create is directly proportional to its ability to enter social conversation. If that itself is restricted to a few columns every weekend or only available online, it’s not just art that is scared, we all are.

But all is not lost.

I had to share this little Art Passage I saw at the mall: a sliver of space between the big brands, showing digital reproductions of Kalam Patua’s watercolours.

The exhibition unfolds the journey of Pattachitras and the many ways in which their artistic voice is channeled.

Maybe it’s time to realise that courageous art is one that belongs in the everyday.

Last day to see Euphoria at @boldtendencies!

Swipe to the end to see a pigeon, once kidnapped by a Londoner visiting the rooftop bar. Thankfully, they woke up and realised they’d gone too far, because the pigeon was safely returned to its throne the next day.

Learnt a lot about these works through @nxtgen.london’s insightful walkthrough with Matilda Marcus, which ended with an amazing gin paloma.
