Holbein watercolor on 140lb Arches paper. I wish I had planned the composition before starting this painting. Roughly half way through this painting, I realized I had no plan for the walls. This caused me to use pastels to fix that. #watercolor #watercolorpainting #watercolors #urbanwatercolor by @arty.scientst74

A quick loose , one brush portrait done in very few colors: ultramarine blue, permanent yellow deep and hints of vermillion and mineral violet. The idea was to leave it incomplete and not fret over parts I didn’t like. #watercolorportrait #watercolorportraits #watercolor #watercolorpainting by @arty.scientst74

So here is the “studio version” of the same scene I did plein air on Monday with urban sketchers. Working in the studio resulted in me adding more elements that could not be done at the scene because of lack of time #watercolor #watercolorpainting #landscape #landscapepainting🎨 #watercolours by @arty.scientst74

A plien air watercolor painting done with @urbansketchersdc in Herndon yesterday. The weather was great and enjoyed the time outside. I also wandered off to a nearby bike shop to get some coffee and check out other people’s artwork so I must have spent around 1 hr 25 minutes or so painting. Afterwards. I went on a walk along W&OD trail for around a couple of miles. After I got home, I fixed some of the blooms and added the shadows. It would be fun to repeat this piece at home when I will have more time to make decisions and to compare differences between the two versions.

So I decided to get some Daniel Smith watercolor tubes. I just got some skin tone colors and used my Holbein for the rest of the palette. The D.S. Colors are very powerful and as I was using them for the first time, they were hard to control. But I’ll learn as I get used to them. I also used more brushes in the final touches. The cool warm background dichotomy was also an intentional experiment. I used a loose initial drawing for the composition. #watercolor #watercolorportrait #watercolours #portraitpainting #myart by @arty.scientst74

Watercolor painting done today after work. It was inspired by a landscape photo that I found on my feed. I modified the composition to create this piece. The thought process involved solving problems as I went along. Still not convinced why I painted this #watercolor #watercolorpainting #landscapepaintings #myart by @arty.scientst74

Painted this yesterday while at @urbansketchersdc . It was raining so I decided to drive a couple of blocks north and instead chose to paint the National Baptist Church which is in the background in this painting. Added the rainy gay vibe to the sky. Astute observers will notice that the scene is made up because the people are walking into the traffic since I also added a crosswalk. While I like it as a composition, this thing bothers me #watercolor #watercolorpainting #rainyday #umbrellas #urbansketchers by @arty.scientst74

Decided to tell a story with this painting. I added the lipstick mark, improved the glaze on the bubbles by toning down the white and the shadow part of the mug #watercolor #watercolorpainting #coffeecup #myart #watercolours by @arty.scientst74

Happy National Coffee Day! It’s still nine minutes to midnight so I guess I can still skip belated. Watercolor on cotton watercolor paper. I wanted to add an orange glaze over the bubbles but refrained if it might change the shape and texture of the bubbles. #watercolor #watercolorpainting #coffee #coffecup #nationalcoffeeday by @arty.scientst74

Did this quick watercolor today. Wanted to add sun’s rays but quickly decided that it might be too cheesy. Was really drawn to the contrast between the dramatic, soft-edged storm clouds overhead and the cool, glassy reflections across the lake. The foreground grass isn’t well done and looks like repetitive parallel strokes

Painted last weekend at the US botanical garden. I had gone there with the intention of making exuberant splashes of color and drama. The original plant was totally green. I had it as a kid. The background is also mine and just an invention. Watercolor on paper as usual but this time using Van Gogh colors instead of holbien that I have been using lately #watercolor #watercolorpainting #watercolorsplash #myart #watercolours by @arty.scientst74

I did this yesterday in around 30 minutes but today I decided to go back and darken the sky a little more. It seems like I will have to try this kind of sky a few times to understand how it works in watercolor. Lesson: load more paint the first time!
