Our second panel brings together an artist and researcher whose work explores inter-caste marriage, memory and eugenics.

Artist : Panchsheel Gaikwad
Panchsheel Gaikwad is a documentary filmmaker and artist working with personal documentary, archival research, and socially engaged moving image. His practice traces the intersections of caste, migration, and intergenerational memory, drawing on family histories and Ambedkarite legacies to explore how the past remains active in the present.

We will be screening his film ‘I Am Mine, and I Am Yours Too’ (2025) as part of the panel.

Researcher: Arya Mehta (they/ he)
Arya Mehta is a researcher, writer, and cultural practitioner based in London. They studied at the Sarah Parker Remond Centre, UCL, where their dissertation examined how the convergence between early twentieth-century nationalism, science, and Brahminism laid the foundations for eugenic governance in Indian modernity. Through tracing the intersections between feminist reform movements, criminal law and hereditarian logic, they contend that reproductive justice requires transforming the epistemic conditions that determine who narrates this history.
