First powerlifting block since open-heart surgery.

Week 1 & Week 4.

Every day of training brought a temptation to look back and idolize what I used to be able to do & what my body used to be capable of.

Eventually, while scrolling through old training videos, the Lord convicted me of that.

Since then, I haven’t watched any of my old training videos.

And I can truthfully say, without a doubt, that powerlifting has been put in its proper place in my life.

My body still doesn’t quite feel like my own yet. Technique-wise, my lifts can feel sloppy and out of practice. I am encouraged tho because there’s still so much to rebuild. & there’s also a joy in that part of the process I started to lose.

The joy of climbing another mountain. The joy of truly embracing the process all over again.

What a joy it is to climb yet another mountain and embrace everything in the process of reaching its peak. by @aryetheone

My beloved,

You have a heart for people like no one I’ve ever met. & my prayer for you as walk into this new year of life, is that you remain inside of God’s will, remain needy of Him & remain faithful to what He’s called you to do by serving Him and continuing to love people deeply.

You are the best wife & the best mother to our daughter. Cycles have been broken simply because you are her mother. Everyday I thank our God that you are my partner & I don’t take for granted that I have this privilege of doing life with you.

2 Corinthians 4:17 “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,”

A brutal ‭& painful first 6 days of post Open Heart Surgery but God has strengthened me & saw me through it.

I am encouraged by everyone’s well wishes, prayers, out pouring of love, & those who continue to stand in the gap from meal trains to even baby sitting our daughter.

Choosing to place faith & trust in The Lord Jesus Christ is the most important decision you’ll ever make but right after that is choosing a parter to do this life with. Thankful for my bride, my wife, & my life partner these past 6 days for faithfully taking care of me & making sure I had everything I needed to be at ease in the hospital. A virtuous woman in all her ways.

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬ “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Tomorrow morning, I will be undergoing open-heart surgery.

About a month ago, I began having breathing issues—chest tightness, shortness of breath, along with other symptoms & ended up in the hospital for a few days. After running several tests, doctors discovered that I was born with a leaky aorta heart valve that prevented my heart from pumping blood efficiently, causing it to work twice as hard as it should. Since my heart had been operating this way for 27 years, it eventually became stressed & overworked, leading to what was essentially the early stages of heart failure.

Thank God we found out when we did. The doctors are able to replace the valve with a mechanical heart valve, & I am grateful for the opportunity to move forward with treatment.

Words cannot express the number of times I have wrestled with God since receiving this news. Yet through it all, He has faithfully reminded me that He has kept me for 27 years, even when I did not know I was being kept & He will continue to keep me.

I am deeply encouraged by the support of my church, family, & close friends during this time. I can’t thank them enough for continuing to stand in the gap and occupying their prayer time with prayers for me and my family.

A long road to recovery, but I have no doubt that God will use this part of my story for His glory. The only way out, is through.

One year of marriage with the love of my life. You’re easy to love. Talking & reflecting on God’s faithfulness will always be my favorite activity with you.

Day 5 of Pray 21 centers on forgiveness.

Scripture reminds us that we forgive because Christ first forgave us. That doesn’t erase what happened, but it changes who holds the weight of it. Today we’re praying for hearts to be free and for God to bring healing where there’s been pain.

We’ve tried to write this several times and we feel our words fall short from the depths of what is in our soul.

We are thankful for every person who walked through the doors whether it was as a member, on a day pass, participating in a meet, attending a meet, for a Peerspace event, meeting for a chiropractor or massage appointment or gathering over a church function…there is no doubt God was present.

To live out your dream for even a season is truly a blessing from God.

This was by no means a perfect journey but the stories that glorify God aren’t. He was faithful when we weren’t, his strength was best in our weakness, and his grace carried and sustained in ways that we can’t wait to share. We learned so much about stewardship…but more than anything we experienced how much God can and will do despite the size of our human deficits.

Our heart aches for the ending of this chapter but we realize that obedience beyond your standard morals are where the true dying to yourself takes place. What God gives must be given back to him.

We’re grateful for the lives God touched and the people who encountered him in this space.

God is in ALL things. He’s personal, intentional, and purposeful.

On to the next chapter…
