The type of wood used can completely change the quality of a cutting board.

That’s why we are very selective with the woods we use at Arz.

Softwoods are generally less dense, which means they can scratch, dent and absorb moisture much more easily.

For cutting boards, we prefer carefully selected hardwoods that give us the balance we are looking for between durability, stability and knife friendliness.

We work with woods like Walnut, Maple, Cherry and Mahogany because they are strong enough for everyday use without being harsh on your knives.

The wood also needs to be properly dried before production. Even the best hardwood can cause problems if its moisture level is not properly controlled.

A good cutting board starts long before the sanding and finishing process.

A high quality wooden cutting board can be one of the best surfaces to prepare your food on.

Here’s why we choose wood.

Wood has natural properties that can make it difficult for bacteria to survive when the board is properly cleaned and maintained.

Unlike heavily scratched plastic boards, wooden boards do not continuously break down into small plastic particles as you keep cutting on them.

Wood is also much easier on your knives and gives you a strong, stable surface for food preparation.

And unlike plastic boards that are often replaced once they become heavily scratched, a quality wooden board can be maintained, sanded, refinished and used for many years.

Wash it properly, keep it dry and condition the wood regularly.

Take care of the board and it will take care of your kitchen for a very long time. by @arzdesignstudio_

You asked us for more sizes, so we created a collection built around exactly that.

The Classic Collection is available in Maple, Cherry, Walnut and Mahogany.

Each wood gives the board a completely different natural color and grain pattern.

If your kitchen has lighter colors, Walnut or Cherry can create a beautiful contrast.

If your kitchen has darker colors, Maple or Mahogany are a great way to brighten the space.

The collection is also available in different sizes depending on how you plan to use your board.

Use the smaller sizes for everyday prep, the medium size as your main kitchen board, or the larger size when you need more working space.

They also work beautifully as serving boards for steaks, burgers, cheeses, charcuterie and more. by @arzdesignstudio_

Every wooden plank has three different faces, and each one gives a cutting board a completely different look and purpose.

Face grain shows the widest and most natural view of the wood grain. It is usually the most visually detailed, which makes it great for serving boards and lighter preparation.

Edge grain uses the side of the wood. It gives the board more strength and durability while still showing a beautiful grain pattern. This makes it a great option for everyday cutting and serving.

End grain exposes the ends of the wood fibers. When your knife hits the surface, the fibers can separate slightly and close back together instead of being cut across.

This makes End Grain our preferred option for heavier and more frequent knife use.

We use all three depending on the type of cutting board we are creating.

If you cook and chop every day, End Grain is usually the better choice.

If you want something for lighter preparation, serving and everyday use, Edge Grain is perfect.

Our most aesthetic collection to date is finally live.

The Striped Collection was designed using some of the most beautiful hardwoods we could find.

Each board combines different woods including Walnut, Maple, Cherry, Padauk and Mahogany to create a unique natural pattern.

They are perfect for light food preparation, but we especially love using them as serving boards.

Use them for steaks, cheeses, fruits, appetizers or simply keep them displayed in your kitchen.

Every board has its own grain, colors and character, which means no two boards will ever look exactly the same. by @arzdesignstudio_

Here’s everything you need to know to properly take care of your End Grain Cutting Board.

When washing your board, the most important rule is to never put it in the dishwasher.

Wash it by hand using regular dish soap like Fairy or Pril, rinse it well and dry it immediately. Avoid leaving water sitting on the board for long periods and never use bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals.

When the board is not being used, keep it standing upright instead of leaving it flat on the counter. This allows air to reach both sides of the board and helps the wood dry evenly.

If your board gets stained from meat juices, fruits or vegetables, simply add some salt and gently rub the area using half a lemon.

And whenever the wood starts looking dry, apply a fresh layer of mineral oil and board conditioner.
