I don’t talk about being trans very publicly, but reflecting on the suffering that is caused by the perception of trans-ness has me reaching for ways to express my thoughts.

The truth is, I’m not sure what to say or how to explain living in an ever-evolving expression of gender. I think being in constant flux is human, in some form or another, whether we know it or not, whether we ride the tide or fight against it. What I do know is my own belief system isn’t fixed anymore, but ever evolving too. The more I trust my evolution and let go of my control over my self-image or belief in a fixed spiritual self, the more I give up the idea of knowing. It’s allowed me to discover an ever expansive depth within; maybe this is peace or a version of it?

Though it’s a conflicted feeling in a world filled with injustice and chaos. But the deeper I connect within, the more I feel connected to the world outside of this shell. A deep weaving of life that makes me believe separation and self-preservation drives the suffering we see.

Maybe it’s just all made up or maybe there’s some truth to an “inner peace.” We call it God and put a white man’s face to it. Another limit to the capabilities and relationship we can have to it. However, I was always told God wouldn’t accept me if I was gay, and definitely not if I’m trans. Yet here I am, with this feeling contradicting the damnation others have handed me: a damnation that seeds a deep depression…the separation from this inner peace for many in my community.

My connection to the beyond is everything… and nothing—the something of this experience and the complete nothingness. I love the void of the universe as much as I love the tangible. This is how I feel about gender. I can’t make people understand what is not tangible. Something I have discovered only after letting go. I don’t need to have others see what I see any longer. I no longer want to police the views that people have about anything, including the trans experience (though the violence against my community makes me wish I could).

With all that @chasestrangio has been doing for the community (and all our interconnected liberties), getting him into a suit he can feel on top of the world has been a goal of mine. When he reached out at the recommendation of @museummammy I was thrilled at the opportunity to get him into a suit that would be affirming and comfortable for his #Cult100 cover release. The thing is, a good suit is easy to wear. It should feel like jeans and a tee, not a laborious task. And especially for the trans community, we deserve joy, comfort, and to look and feel damn good.
