This lead me to joining Leadership Lincoln, a local class that helps you develop leadership skills as well as educate us on the community we live in.

I was elected class President 💯

I was recently asked my favorite song 🎵

And for the last 3 years, The Climb by @miley has literally saved my life

When I was battling the darkest days, I would play this song up to 50x per day

On some of those days, I would also cry for hours

Now 3 years later, when the song comes on, I sit in immense gratitude for the amazing life I live today.

Thank you Miley - you are apart of the reason I’m still here today ❤️

Today is my mother’s 63rd birthday

It’s been 15 years since I’ve seen her

But the truth is we haven’t had a relationship since I was 13

I’ve done a lot of healing over the years, and understand now more than ever how much mental health issues my mom battled…silently without much support

I have a lot of compassion in my heart for her now, and I’ve forgiven her for the choices she made.

Every year I do my best to remember more of the positive/happy moments we shared

So here are a few….

1️⃣ I never saw her happier than when she was doing any type of housework, with the music blasting and her singing her heart out

Celine, Whitney, Mariah, Prince. Singing was her outlet

2️⃣ I remember her drawings, and her coloring. I remember own year she drew a wolf, and colored it and made my Gram a clock out of it.

I remember her sharing all her older drawings from years ago. She was a bit critical of herself, but she really had/has talent that wasn’t as appreciated as it should have been

3️⃣ Finally, after my parents for a divorce, me, my sister and her would spend every weekend renting 5 movies, getting our fav frozen pizza, some chips, a 2 liter, and marathoning movies all night long

That might have been the happiest period we had together!

So, today, I wish my mom a happy, healthy and fulfilled birthday from afar.

Please refrain from making comments involving suggestions I should try and reconnect, or that family is family and I need to try and rebuild a relationship with her. I don’t have a desire to do that, and it wouldn’t be healthy for either of us.

Instead, if you have a good relationship with your mom, reach out and tell her how much you love her and share with her one of your favorite memories you have with her.

Look at the newest additional to our household
Her name is Dolly May
She was rescued by a friend, who found her on the side of the road inside her mother’s pouch. Her mom and her siblings had 💀
She is about to be 19 weeks old
And yes….Dolly is an opossum 🔥
