November last year I started the process to get top surgery. Around the same time, I wanted to start a project - In Bed With Tops - bed as a place of healing and care. The intention was to create a photo series of intimate portrait shoots at home, followed by a conversation with people who had gone through the process and could give their perspective, story and tips. I wished to do a tiny zine with it, to share the information with others going through this road too. But my process with health insurance hit denial after denial, and in between many doctors, referral letters, frustration and things we need to keep life going - the project did not go further. Not that I gave up, just wasn’t the time for it.

There is such a relief and happiness when we make the decision of mastectomy. Then you face again a system that doesn’t make sense, barriers that are unnecessary and tiring. But we keep going, because at the end we can feel the euphoria and joy that we will find in it. The process has its downs, but also its ups, and this day is one of them.

I love these photos, chats and the memories with @nb_xzen ✨Such a beautiful scene for me was seeing the slow touch of love and care between the fingers running through the scars… the chest becomes a place of healing and peace. I cannot wait for the day I can have mine. But while that, I embrace the people that I am lucky to have and share understanding of mind in a process that feels very long and lonely most of the time.

T4Tree with @hugo.goboy 🌿

🌳🌳🌳

The branches we see on the surface are a reflection of what is underneath the ground. An invisible work that makes it possible for trees to expand to extraordinary widths and heights.

What happens in the dark, grows in the light. Hardship doesn’t stop the work - It makes it shine.

I see this not only in plants, but also in trans and non-binary lives. So much the system tries to uproot. But at the end - the most beautiful trees reaching high.

T4Tree/ A photo series pairing trees with trans & non-binary people 🌿✨

@dirandrakala (they/he/she/dia) was one of the first people in my mind when I started T4Tree ❤️ because when we met, I got to know they are a tree hugger too 🌳🫂✨ We don’t find many of us 😝 more often people walking fast through the streets, forgetting the ones that help us breath.

Beyond that, we discovered we also share trees as a place of grief. Grief as honouring what was… a place to feel, connect, and heal. A process that moves like nature, changing in waves, transforming through time and space.The tree is a portal. Dark & Light. Deaf & Life. A place where what we carry - emotions, relationships, memories, old versions of ourselves - leaves lighter. Brighter like a new leaf.

There is science behind what happens when you hug a tree. And there is something beyond what happens when you grieve beside one. Both are healing. Both are transformative. Both bring us back to what we forgot. ❤️

T4Tree / A photo series pairing trees with trans & non-binary people

Earth is the only known place in the universe with trees.
They give us air to breathe, water to fall, food to eat, shelter from the heat.
They are medics, carers of soil, and we could go on and on with what they do for us.
Yet our society barely appreciates them. Just like trans bodies.

Trees and trans bodies are harmed by our laws and treated with violence by our systems. As we share struggles, we share beauty and transformation.

Neither of us follows a single sex system. Some carry both sexes in one body. Others change through time. We live in cycles. Bodies that transition. Bodies that shed - not as loss, but as release. What seems impossible in TERF eyes is nature’s everyday life.

Spending time among trees restores something in me. I feel I belong. And I wish this photo series to be a union of our bodies, causes, and a moment for us to rest, create and play.

I am asking each person in this series to share a community, an ONG, a movement or an activist fighting for trans rights and/or for the environment. We can use this platform to help each other and make the work louder. Not everyone can be on the frontline, but everyone can find a way to support someone who is. As trees hold each other in the forest, we should build a system to support each other here.

We went for a 20 min walk, and on the first second they pointed to a cutted tree. I got excited cause I have been reading about the power of a cut tree in a forest. She is not absent, it is just TRANSformed. What looks like an ending in our human eyes, is actually an opening to a new way of living.
