The Art of What We Do.

Prior to coming into the industry, the importance of self expression was not something that I understood to its full extent.

…“It’s just hair”…

It wasn’t until I found such a passion in this field that I truly understood that hair is, in fact, not just hair. It is who we are. The center of self expression for people like me. Growing up as a queer person, learning how to express myself in ways that felt genuine to me was a challenge. As I started experimenting with my own hair, I came to discover just how much of an impact it made on my sense of self identity. It became such a huge part of the way that I express myself. This is what I strive to create in others. To have the ability to help others feel seen, not only by myself, but by their own self as well, is truly a gift. Having the opportunity to further my education in an environment that encourages individuality is incredibly special to me. I am so very thankful to not only work alongside, but to learn from, so many talented and unique individuals. Thank you to those who have put their trust in me. And to those who I have yet to meet, I can’t wait to know you. by @ashallenfx

Ruining my perfectly curated grid to share an aspect of my life that I am rather proud of !

In September of last year I was at a point in my life where I knew I wanted to make a change. I have always been someone who has struggled with anxiety going into new things and places that I don’t feel like I belong. I would let that anxiety run my life, and because of it I felt stagnant.

In October I made the decision to face my fear and take control of what I wanted for myself, and who I wanted to be.
I met someone that helped me immensely and am so very thankful for them, but will forever be proud of that version of me for making the jump herself.

Since then I have fallen in love with the process and find genuine joy in pushing myself to be the best version of me. It’s brought me so much confidence and given me a purpose of my own. It’s a good feeling to be able to say that I no longer let my anxiety’s run my life, and am working towards becoming the person I want to be.

One year ago I started off at 121 lbs, and now I stand at 134.
It’s easy to overlook progress, but looking back has shown me just how much I’ve grown mentally as well as physically.

That is all for my sappy post for now, but I hope that in another year I’ll be able to look back and say that I have changed yet again. by @ashallenfx
