✨ Homeschool Hot Takes ✨

These are things I had to literally rewire in my 🧠 after being a public school teacher for years! 🍎🏫

👉🏻 Kids don’t need 6 subjects a day to thrive. 2–3 solid lessons + free play beats a jam-packed schedule every time. 🎨🛝

👉🏻 You don’t have to follow the public school calendar. You can take off a random Tuesday, school on Saturday, or learn year-round with long breaks (what we do!). Who’s gonna stop you? 🗓🚫

👉🏻 Sitting at a desk for an hour straight? Overrated. Kids learn faster in 15–20 minute bursts. A couch, the floor, or the backyard works just fine. The “school model” was made for crowd control, not your child’s brain. 🧠💡

👉🏻 Some days you’ll wonder if they learned anything. Guess what? They did. Because real education is happening while baking cookies, running errands, and asking “why?” 100 times in a row. 🍪🚗❓

👉🏻 Stop stressing over “falling behind.” Behind who? The whole point of homeschooling is ditching that race. 🏁🚫

👉🏻The comparison game will eat you alive. Grab some inspo here and there, but focus on what works for you🫵🏻 and start creating your own homeschooling story. 📖

👉🏻 Homeschooling isn’t about recreating public school—it’s about creating something better for your family. 🏡✨

👋🏻 Hey new bestie!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet ✏️🏠—where I’m spilling all my best tips, tricks, and teaching ideas from my years in the kindergarten classroom to now schooling my own kiddos at home. 💡📚

✨ A few fun facts about me:
👩‍👦‍👦 I’m a boy mama to Gabriel (5) and Judah (2).
💘 I met my husband on a blind date—we’re both oldest children and both like to be the boss 😅… never a dull moment!
🍎 I taught kindergarten for 4 years before becoming a SAHM to my sweet covid baby in 2020.
✝️ Jesus is my Savior, and I strive to bring Him glory in everything I do.
🎉 Party planning is my slightly expensive hobby—I live for the little details that make an event extra special.
🥳 In our home, we celebrate the small things to make everyday life feel magical.

The heart behind this page 💕 is to give you practical, creative, and faith-filled resources for teaching your kids at home—whether you’re full-time homeschooling or just sprinkling learning into your everyday routine.

💬 Now I want to hear from YOU!

His Little Flock Co-op was all things apples this week! 🍏🍎 From counting and graphing to tasting and creating, we had a fun day of hands-on learning! 🐑📚

Here’s what was on our apple-filled lesson plan:

🍎 Arrival: Apple coloring pages + browsing apple picture books
📚 Read-Aloud: Ten Apples Up on Top + felt board counting practice
📊 Math: Apple tasting + bar graphing our favorites
🎨 Art: Apple stamping on paper “jars”
🥪 Lunch: Turkey, cheese & apple sandwiches; apple butter & PB sandwiches; apple slices; veggies; applesauce pouches; apple chips; apple juice; and apple pie for dessert! 🥧🍎

A little learning, a lot of fun, and enough apples to keep us crisp all day! 😂🍎🐑

TIPS FOR BUILDING A RICH SCIENCE STASH (without spending a fortune)

📚 Thrift the books
I’m always checking thrift stores, library sales, and used bookstores for science + nature books. You can find SO many gems!

🌿 Use what’s around you
Forage, harvest, collect, identify. 🍂🪲🌱 We’ve collected bugs for a shadow box, dried lavender from our garden, gathered leaves, rocks, flowers, etc. Nature is our favorite science resource!

📬 Subscriptions
We love having a few science magazines + STEM kits to pull out when we need something new.

🦕 Let their interests lead
If they’re suddenly obsessed with dinosaurs, bugs, space, sharks, or how plants grow… RUN WITH IT. 😂 Find books, watch something, get a puzzle, go outside and look for it. Their curiosity makes the best starting point for learning.

🧩 Don’t forget PLAY
Puzzles, card games, animal figures, building toys, microscopes, bug viewers… so much learning happens through play!

💡 Think outside the box
Honestly, most of our science stuff isn’t “curriculum.” It’s books, toys, nature walks, random questions, and whatever they’re currently obsessed with. 😂

I’m learning that building a good science stash is less about having more and more about having things that make my kids curious. 🤍🔬🌿

Homeschooling isn’t just about what we teach our children. It’s about what we make room for. 🤍

First day of “His Little Flock” 🐑🩵
We’ve been dreaming up this little homeschool group for awhile and it’s so exciting to watch it come to life! DAY 1 included a School Supply Scavenger Hunt at Target 🎯 (obviously) and then picnic + playtime at the park. Can’t wait to watch these babies grow and learn this year 🌿

🍎 Next on the agenda is a Back to School Brunch + All Things Apples lessons ✏️
