I love rats, but even I will admit there are a ton of them in Prospect Park lately. Maybe if people didn’t leave their trash strewn about after their parties…Anyway I’m glad the red-tailed hawk baby born earlier this year gets to practice hunting.

As I watched, mom caught a rat, allowed baby to steal it, but then it was dropped and left behind. I waited until mom came back and picked up her lost meal 🦅🐀

I finally made the trip to the northern part of Central Park to search for Flaco! Back in February of this year, Flaco, a Eurasian Eagle-Owl, was broken out of his cage at Central Park Zoo. There was much debate over whether or not he would be able to survive in the wild after 13 years in captivity, but he’s doing really great!

I couldn’t figure out how to show scale, but this owl is XL. The wingspan of a male like Flaco can reach up to six feet, according to Audubon.org.

Barred Owl in Central Park near Pinetum. Walked around for a few miles before spotting it up in the tree snoozing. 🦉

@thearmoryshow is one of my favorite events of the year. People watching 10/10. This one marks 8 years since @ageddings and I installed Bychloe and they didn’t even install power until 10pm and I almost had a full meltdown lmao. I even got to introduce @chu_xe_dap_llc to the tradition 📷🩶 by @ashcov

Rainy day ducks. Too early for warbler migration or is the Vale construction already doing damage? taken in Prospect Park by @ashcov

This year started out not looking so good, but in the end it feels like such a privilege to have experienced it all. I never ask for a year of painful growth, but I appreciate them so much when they find me because that growth is important, and permanent.

Feeling wildly lucky to be starting and ending 2025 in one of my favorite places, but also softer, stronger, and happier. Can’t even begin to express my gratitude for the people in my life who truly see me, and show up unconditionally in the ways I need, to help me lift the heavy shit. Y’all know I love you more than words.
