I know I’m either not active or don’t post much here, but I just wanted to share space with y’all.

My children presented at the Johnson House Historic Site for the camp’s concluding showcase. Watch the clips of their overall powerful performance. Also, I asked that camp counselors have full range in selecting award recipients. Zuri was awarded the Dr. MLK award, and Ethan was awarded the Barack Obama award. I love that for them. 😅

My son presented on Brain Chains and Solutions: Enslavement of the Mind. My daughter presented on The Johnson House Historic Site and the Underground Railroad.

Baby, I get so caught up in the moment these days that I forget to take pictures, so I end up asking others. It didn’t make capturing moments easy either, considering I served as the director of camp programming. Nonetheless, thankful. What a privilege to be in the presence of others who recognize the importance of ensuring children and adults are equipped with the needed cultural tools to best be of service to themselves and others.

I’m surely going to invest in prescription AI glasses and maybe even hire videographers and photographers to capture the experience while I watch or participate moving forward because I like clean material, and this ain’t it. I’ll do better. ☺️ by @ashdiamonn

I’m very thankful that many of my doctoral courses transferred to the applicable principal certification courses, leaving me with only two cert courses to complete.

A mentor, @principal_dr.jay, recently told me to stop hesitating and start stacking certifications with purpose, and that’s exactly what I plan to do.

Also, shout out to @arcadiauniversity. I’ve never been sent a welcome gift. 🫶🏿 by @ashdiamonn

This was my son’s second year taking the state test. Last year, he scored Proficient, just a few points away from Advanced. This year, he took on the challenge and leveled up, scoring ADVANCED!

If you know anything about how state testing usually trends, especially from a historical perspective, then you know exactly why this is such a big deal. I’m beyond proud.

He’s been reading since Pre-K, writing books in elementary school, and he’s even a published author. This boy is a walking book!

And my daughter? She’s a walking calculator, sharp, quick, and always calculating.

Now it’s time for me to dust myself off and get back on my grind…so I can keep pouring into them and their dreams with intensity. Both of these kids already have extensive resumes; I’ve got to keep up! Big shoutout to their school community and village, too.♥️ by @ashdiamonn

I appreciated the opportunity to lead a conversation on the chapter We Are a Family from Successful Teachers of African American Children by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings. My goal was to encourage participants to reflect on how understanding the fluid, ever-evolving culture of today’s African American students can lead to stronger relationships and improved academic outcomes.

Given the limited time, I incorporated creative strategies to make the discussion impactful. For example, I played the track They Forgot About Me 3 by @leafward. The music offered a window into the lived experiences of African American youth, demonstrating how cultural expression can be a powerful tool for connection and bridging academic disconnect.

We also explored critical issues such as race-based grading, projected biases, and deficit thinking—all of which educators must recognize and actively resist. Teaching practices should affirm students’ cultural identities.
