there’s so much of my art you’ve never seen. almost finished pieces that sit and collect dust, or become buried in procreate folders; and a part of me stays hidden away with them.

for every piece of my art you’ve seen, there are at least five pieces i never shared. in hindsight it feels sad, to know so much was created and my doubts kept them from being known.

the other day as i was checking the mailbox i saw a bluebird fly across my lawn. in the drab not yet green backdrop of winter it felt jolting. like my eyes could barely believe the streak of blue was possible.

i haven’t stopped thinking about it, like maybe it was a painting i haven’t made yet. this morning i knew that i at least had to get the memory down in some way, so i pulled out my ipad and sketched it from memory. anatomically speaking i don’t know how realistic this is, but energetically its exactly right. and that’s enough.

One of my favorite backyard trees fell during the winter storm here in Nashville, and I decided i’d honor it by creating as much art out of it as I can.

This piece was cut off the stump of the tree, hand sanded, prepped and painted with oil. I followed the natural grain of the wood to create the image, because i didn’t want to lose any of the natural beauty of the cedar.

I find it so beautiful that the flow of water is close enough to the growth of tree rings that they mirror one another so well. 💙 by @ashe.walker
