Sparks in the Park returns to Sutton Lawn! 🎆

Get ready for a spectacular night as Sparks in the Park returns to Sutton Lawn on Saturday 7 November! ✨

Our popular firework extravaganza is set to be a fantastic evening packed with family fun, entertainment and dazzling fireworks displays.

What to expect:
🎡 Funfair
🎧 DJ
🛍️ Traders and stalls
🎇 Children's fireworks display at 6pm
🎆 Main fireworks spectacular at 8pm

Gates open at 4pm
FREE entry

Recycling in Ashfield has become even simpler, with more items now accepted in your recycling collection.

Green Lid Bin - Recycling

Paper and cardboard
Newspapers, magazines and envelopes
Plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
Food and drink cartons (Tetra Paks)
Tin cans and food tins
Empty aerosol cans
Aluminium foil and foil trays

Brown Lid Bin- Garden Waste
Leaves
Weeds and plants
Hedge clippings
Small branches and prunings
Dead flowers
Twigs

Red Lid Bin - General Waste
Crisp packets and wrappers
Nappies and sanitary products
Pet waste
Polystyrene
Anything that cannot be recycled

Please do not place batteries, electrical items, carrier bags, cling film or black plastic containers in your recycling bin.

Recycling the right items helps us reduce waste and keep Ashfield cleaner and greener.

Over the past week, our Waste Advisors have been out and about across the district, speaking with residents and visiting local schools to help people learn more about recycling and how small changes can make a big difference.

There's only a few days left to share your views on how £20million Pride in Place funding should be spent in Hucknall!

We've received over 200 responses so far but we want more people to fill the survey out, to ensure the whole community's voice is heard.

The quick survey is just the first stage of the process for Hucknall’s 10-year funding.

The responses will help provide ideas for projects and initiatives which we will then do a second survey for. The most supported themes will be worked into proposals that can be further developed and approved by the new Hucknall Neighbourhood Board.

The survey is the chance for you to make your voice heard, by letting the Neighbourhood Board know what really matters to the people who live, work, and play in Hucknall.

Projects must fit into one of the government’s three themes:
• Creating Thriving Places - making Hucknall a better place to live, work and visit.
• Building Stronger Communities - helping people feel connected, supported and proud of Hucknall.
• Local Voice and Control - giving residents more say in local decisions and priorities.

The survey is available on the Council’s website (link in comments) until 18 September 2026, or paper copies will be available at:
• Hucknall Leisure Centre, Linby Road
• Under One Roof, Vine Terrace
• Hucknall Family Hub (formerly Butlers Hill Children's Centre), Broomhill Road
• Hucknall Library, South Street
• St Peter & St Paul's Church, Ruffs Drive

The Hucknall Neighbourhood Board has now been appointed and the first meeting is this week. Once we have all responses back, these will go to the Neighbourhood Board for review to help shape the second round of consultation.

The Hucknall Pride in Place fund is 63% Capital funding (which can be used to improve, or build, new buildings and community facilities, as an example) and 37% Revenue funding (which can be used to pay for services, running costs, resources and voluntary groups, as examples). by @ashfielddc

The Hive is officially open

The former Barista Café on Outram Street has been given a new lease of life as it is transformed into a new multi agency community hub.

Council and police data identify Sutton as the district’s highest need area for extra support. The Hive has been designed in direct response to this need.

The hub is a publicly accessible space offering a mix of drop in support, pre booked appointments, wellbeing activities and group sessions, alongside a shared base for partner organisations.

Services available include:
Citizens Advice
Hopkins Solicitors – for advice on areas such as family law
Framework Mental Health Services
Framework Wellness in Mind
Change Grow Live (CGL) – support with drugs and alcohol, housing, justice, health and wellbeing
NHS Sexual Health Services and other NHS Services
Ashfield District Council teams including Housing Options and Resettlement Officers
Juno
Equation

The project is funded through the Nottinghamshire Police Crime Commissioner's office.
