We were all smiles on our 2nd annual Women’s Writer’s Conference. Last year, there were 8 of us. This year there were 11. We gathered in a cozy home in the Catskills. We set goals for ourselves, we embraced nature, and we gave ourselves permission to do what we needed to move forward in our writing. Some of worked on our novels, others on their poetry collections or non-fiction projects. This year our biggest lesson was to give ourselves grace. To not let writing become a chore, but to remember why we do it in the first place.

Interested in attending our next conference? Applications will open in January 2027!

PITCH SESSION

Ashley Imane Fields is an editor at Forever Imprint.

Ashley is looking for well-paced spicy reads centered on BIPOC voices that capture authentic modern relationships and human (or maybe not-so-human) experiences. She's also a sucker for juicy tropes: fated lovers, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, he fell first/she fell harder, touch-her-and-die, and lots of miscommunication. Throw in high emotional stakes, hilarious banter, and jaw-dropping plot twists, and she's hooked. Her primary genres are contemporary, dark romantic comedies, and romantasy. Ashley is not interested in horror, science fiction, or historical romances, nor dramatic age gaps or taboo relationships.

THINGS TO NOTE:
- A speed pitch form closer to the day of the event will be sent where you can sign up and mark your top five people you want to pitch.
-If you are going to be a debut author a FULL manuscript is required.
- For self-pub, you can pitch a WIP but also be able to pitch your indie work.

Romancing the craft is a one-day workshop for writers!
DATE: Saturdays, September 12
LOCATION: Fordham University at Lincoln Center

It’s been my absolute pleasure supporting and shepherding your novel these last few months!

It’s been a greater pleasure meeting you in-person, sharing some laughs over lunch with Estelle, @readforeverpub ‘s extraordinary Publicist, and getting to know the human being behind the novel.

Thank you for signing my desk copy, which will sit on my bookshelf forever. 🙏🏽🥹 by @ashisreadingstuff

Our Team is sharing their list of things that have shaped their writing, and Ash has joined in on the fun! See her list below:

1. Of course, Wattpad, Ao3, Fanfiction.net, and Tumblr being the first places I’ve ever put my writing out there, and ate up all the stories I read. I still have so many bookmarked.

2. Black Music: Where would we be without MJ, Whitney, and Beyonce (to name a few!)

3. Black Women Writers: I find myself moved the most by the work of Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and Maya Angelou.

4. Early 2000s Cartoons: Not just Disney, but Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network! Whimsy, fun, adventures should never have to end.

5. Fandoms: What an era of MG and YA! These fandoms have a special place in my heart.

Wrapping up Labor Day weekend with a huge book birthday!!! Happy Pub Day to MOKO MAGIC by Tracey Baptiste—an Afro-Caribbean–inspired story, about three cousins who are called on to use their moko (protector) magic when stolen art goes on the rampage.

@traceybaptistewrites it’s always a pleasure working on stories of home, and I’m happy I got to help push this book to the finish line! Proud island gyal here! 🇬🇩🇯🇲 by @ashisreadingstuff
