Last night was a beautiful celebration of Hawaiʻi’s finest musical talent at the 49th Annual @nahokuhanohanoawards. Mahalo to the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts (HARA), and congratulations to all the performers, nominees, and winners on your achievements in music.

It was also a deeply meaningful evening and a beautiful opportunity to honor the life and enduring legacy of Princess Victoria Kawēkiu Kaʻiulani Lunalilo Kalaninuiahilapalapa Cleghorn (October 16, 1875 – March 6, 1899).

This past year marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of our beloved Kamāliʻi Wahine.

With the most loving hands, creative minds, and hearts, we honor and celebrate her legacy through mele, beauty, and pīkake—the flower forever intertwined with her name.

We are profoundly grateful to have been part of this special moment.

Allow me to introduce myself 💖

I realized I’ve never done a post about me (also clarifying for the creepers who DM me thinking I’m the models I share here. Hi! I’m the weirdo redhead doing the hair for those gorgeous people)

Anywho, Hi! I’m Ashlee, I’m a professional hairstylist of 22 years. I’ve been doing non pro hair dressing since 5 years old. Doing hair has always been my passion, it really suits my ADHD brain of doing something different every day. I really like doing natural looking hair that looks like it could have been made in the sun but I also love doing bright blondes and vibrant reds. Locking in on an hours long foil is like meditation to me. I loooove doing a blowout, an updo, a fun hairstyle. I spend my nights looking at new color formulas, haircut videos and updo inspo. I’m a hair nerd. I’ve always dreamt of working on tv and film and in 2021 I started working towards joining our local Union IATSE 665. I am a very proud member of our Union and I love working on set. I’ve met amazing people doing this. I’ve been working on editorial and commercial photo shoots for 15 years and I’ve met and befriended the most incredible humans on this journey. I’ve been very lucky and a lot of that is credited to my beauty sister @kecialittman who has opened doors for me I would have never walked through without her. I have a bridal business @alohabridalstyle with Kecia and we love all of our brides and have traveled a lot for weddings. I’m super happy to be renting a chair in Kaimuki from my friend @erikamakesyoupretty and I can’t wait to see you guys behind the chair soon! by @ashleevaleros

Buckle up this is gonna be long 😂

(In my best Sophia voice) Picture it: Kaimuki Halloween 2016. @kecialittman and I are coloring her hair at her house. We’ve been manifesting the PERFECT space to do weddings, get models ready for shoots, have girly time, do hair and makeup. We had very specific wants: in Kaimuki, lots of parking, bathroom in unit, back room so I could hide all my crap and not eat in front of clients, a treatment room. Anyway, we’re chatting and scrolling for spaces and she gets super excited and says she found it! We call the manager and he can meet us right now. We run over there with color processing on heads and we’re immediately sold.

January 2017 we officially move in with @naleijane and open for business. My Dad @britt_anderson_designs installs the shampoo bowl right after we fly back from Kauai. He gets the first haircut in the space.

We had so many changes over the years but my fave transition is when @bevin.vashti joined us in 2020 and the band was back together.

I’ve seen my clients get married, have babies, done their kiddos first haircuts, change careers, move away, move back 😂, and be SO understanding when I started working on set.

I’m SO SO grateful for our clients and friends. My clients and Bevin’s clients are the best! All the times clients showed up with food or coffee or treats. SO MANY times @mollianegotter let us borrow Adam to do a fixer upper or a remodel or a help us we thought we could do this but we don’t want to touch gross things at the “beauty parlor”. Having @cheetahcoffee throw open the door and stand there like a creeper. I loved being so close to my favorite places @breadshophnl @thecurbkaimuki and @thepublicpet I loved having @vanessafoster_ join us and making a new and lovely friend.

Even though we have decided to not renew our lease I will still always hold this neighborhood and our neighbors close to our hearts. Thank you to everyone who walked through our door, supported us and cheered us on. I’m feeling nostalgic, sad, grateful and motivated. I love you so much @kecialittman @bevin.vashti @vanessafoster_
