Aydra's "They Waste a Throne" was a blast to learn. It's about a paranoid ruler abusing his power while his people pay for it, and it hits close to home right now. Midterms are Tuesday. Go vote. 🗳️

I took a mental health day today. No apologies. 41, mom of 2, full time job, two musical projects, and many responsibilities and obligations. Life can get heavy and overwhelming, particularly this timeline we're living in. This is your reminder to take some time for yourself. Sometimes you just need to lock yourself in a room and play Necrophagist sloppily at 90% speed and not quite nail it and that's enough. We need to make sure we don't forget to honor ourselves. This is a part of healing. This is an excerpt from "Stabwound" off of Necrophagist's Epitaph (one of my favorite albums).

Do binaural beats actually work? 🎧 I dug into the research so you don't have to.
Short version: yes, but it depends on the frequency itself (as in Hertz [Hz], how many wave cycles per second, not rate of occurence 🤓), timing, and how long you listen.

Alpha, beta, and gamma beats showed real memory benefits, while anxiety and pain relief were the most consistent wins across the board.

Personally? Theta has taken me to some incredible mental spaces, and theta beats demonstrably reduced anxiety in the research mentioned 🥹

This is from 'Efficacy of binaural auditory beats in cognition, anxiety, and pain perception' (Garcia-Argibay et al., 2019) if you want to look it up yourself, and there are many more peer reviewed studies available!

I've been pouring my whole heart into these random meditative metal songs lately. It brings me a lot of joy in this equally insane and magical world. New track is up. More rhythmic guitars, lil different than my usual, with a soulful solo to get you moving inward 🙃 This one has a 40 hz differential, associated with gamma brain activity. Headphones required. Also, still down for feedback and actual local drummers sending me samples 🥹

This one's from "Theta Ballad No. 2 - Slow Descent" 🎧 Built on a 6 Hz differential. Just a reminder 🫠 I've got songs live now if you want the full experience.

New meditative tune dropping in the next week or two 🤘 Also, if there are any local drummers who have recorded tracks I could use (or want to collaborate?) and give credit to instead of using samples, HMU!!!
