Today, I turn 40.

A year ago, I never imagined how much life could change in just 365 days.

Thirty-nine broke me in ways I didn’t expect. It was a year filled with family illness, heartbreak, burnout, uncertainty, and more tears than I ever thought I would cry. There were days I questioned everything—my purpose, my strength, and the path I was on.

But sometimes life has to unravel you before it can rebuild you.

Somewhere in the middle of the pain, I found pieces of myself I didn’t even realize I’d lost.

I learned that it’s okay to outgrow people, places, and even old versions of myself. Not everyone is meant to come with me into the next chapter, and that’s okay.

I learned that I can’t control how others choose to act. I can only control how I respond, and that response has become one of my greatest sources of peace.

I stopped trying to have every answer. I let go of the need to overanalyze every decision and began trusting the process, even when I couldn’t see where it was leading.

And on the days when everything felt too heavy, I reminded myself: one day at a time. One step at a time. Sometimes that’s all we can do, and sometimes that’s more than enough.

As I step into 40, my priorities have become crystal clear.

This past year reminded me how fragile life can be. It taught me that time is our most valuable gift and that the people we love deserve more of it. The things that once consumed my thoughts no longer carry the same weight. My focus isn’t on chasing titles, meeting expectations, or trying to control every outcome. My focus is on being present—with my family, with the people I love, and with the life we’re building together.

Forty isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about finally knowing what matters.

So I’ll keep moving forward the same way I’ve learned to get through this past year: one day at a time, one step at a time, trusting that where I’m headed matters far more than where I’ve been. by @ashley__spore

Today my baby graduated from 5th grade, and I’m not entirely sure how that happened. One minute I was teaching him how to tie his shoes, and the next he’s rolling his eyes when I try to take “just one more picture.”

Watching you grow has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m so proud of the kind, funny, smart, hardworking young man you’re becoming. You’ve made us laugh, kept us on our toes, and filled our lives with more joy than you’ll ever know.

Middle school is right around the corner, which is both exciting and slightly terrifying for us. We survived elementary school homework, lost water bottles, mystery lunchbox smells, and countless baseball games. Somehow, we all made it.

Keep being yourself, keep chasing your dreams, and remember that no matter how big you get, you’ll always be my little boy.

Congratulations, graduate! 🎓❤️ by @ashley__spore
