Since I was 18 years old I knew I was going to get a tattoo that had to do with my dad and his tragic passing. The problem was everyone around me. “You’re gonna regret it in 20 years” “you’re being impulsive” “that tattoo won’t mean shit to your dad so you aren’t even doing it for him” “wait till you’re 25 and then I’ll respect your decision”

At 28 when I still felt the need I did at 18 to tie him to me forever I decided it was time, and I was lucky enough to convince my sister to get one too.

My only regret? Listening to everyone around me and not getting it sooner

So to my dad,

In a world where you no longer exist, I will always carry you with me.

20 years without you when I only got 9 with you doesn’t seem fair, but I can only pray you’re looking down proud of what you instilled in me in those first nine. You taught me love, compassion, manners, forgiveness, and most importantly you taught me how to never quit no matter how hard life gets.
