Finally feeling unwound from the trip. Reminiscing in about what a crazy and cool experience it all was. Stocked with ALL the @lululemon gear, treated the best by @teamcanada and the Canadian Olympic Committee, not only were we best dressed but think we had the best village set up too! (Lounge, gym, chill zone, games, ice baths), participating in an opening ceremonies with 48,000 spectators,Our #1 fan @rickwakefun, wakeboarding in another new country, witnessing the most intense men’s finals landing @wake_hunter a Silver medal 🥈 Celebrating all of the successes of Team Canada. So grateful for all of it! by @ashleyleugner

Yesterday was the close of the Pan American Games. As I look back on the year and my journey to the games I have a lot of emotions. It’s been an amazing, yet challenging ride. I’m grateful for all the moments and the opportunity.

Anyone who knows me, knows that placing 5th wasn’t the outcome I envisioned for myself, but I remind myself that the true victory was being given the opportunity to participate at all.

I want to extend a massive thank you to my fam jam, friends, supporters and sponsors that had my back during this journey. Your unwavering belief and support was the secret sauce for my comeback.

@virtusgroupllp @backsideboardshop @wswsask and any human that drove the boat for me, let me use their boat ;), was a wakeboard mom or dad to me, encouraged me, wished me luck, gave me coaching tips, sent positive vibes, MUCHAS GRACIAS ❤️ by @ashleyleugner

Wake Canada is proud to announce that ASHLEY LEUGNER @ashleyleugner and HUNTER SMITH @wake_hunter will represent Canada in Women’s and Men’s Wakeboarding, respectively, at the Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games in Chile this October, as confirmed by the Canadian Olympic Committee @teamcanada. DARY ZNEBEL @daryznebel has been named Coach of the Pan Am Games Wakeboard Team! Congrats to everyone!

ASHLEY LEUGNER
Hailing from the Saskatchewan lake community of Fort Qu’Appelle, Ashley is one of Canada’s most decorated wakeboarders: a 7-time National Champion, World Championship Silver Medalist, Bronze World Cup Finisher and many top ten finishes on the world circuit.

Ashley clinched Canada’s Pan Am Games Women’s spot with a convincing win at last month’s Canadian Wakeboard Boat Championship in BC! It was an exciting and very special competition comeback after being off the water the past three years due to injury!

Ashley: “Representing Canada at an event as prestigious as the Pan-Am Games is a dream come true. It took a long time for women’s wakeboarding to be included in the Games and if I wasn’t able to represent the country at least once at the Games I would feel like I had unfinished business. I’m very grateful for the opportunity as I’m sure this experience will be one to remember for a lifetime.”

HUNTER SMITH
Wake Canada’s Wakeboard Boat Rider Of The Year (2022), Hunter hails from North Vancouver, BC. He grew up through the ranks of Wake Canada and @wakebc events winning his first national title at age 9.

He qualified for the National Development Team in 2017 and then the Elite Team in 2021. Hunter clinched Canada’s Pan Am Games Men’s spot with a hard fought win at last month’s Canadian Wakeboard Boat Championship in BC!

Hunter: “I’m excited and honoured to represent Canada at the Pan Am Games! This is something I have been working towards for 14 years!”

“Since I first stepped on a wakeboard at 7 years oId, I fell in love with the sport. It has given me so many great friends and awesome life experiences.”

“Now it’s time to put my head down and make sure I have a contest run that will give Canada a chance at Gold!”
