I’m beyond proud to share Regen in Augustus will be premiering at Rotterdams finest, the @iffr I’m forever grateful for winning the RTM price the past year and it gifting me the opportunity to make my first short fiction film. Regen in Augustus takes you on a modern day journey in the day of the life a young black woman struggling with her mental health in this day and age where despite being more connected than ever, she finds herself in isolation. Trying to make sense of it all, the generational gap between her and her mother becomes more apparent. ♾️ gratitude and love 🖤There’s a few people I want to shout out in particular. First of all, thank you @iffr and @gemeenterotterdam for the opportunity and trust. Thank you to the most amazingly talented, captivating lead, @femivanelshuis . You are an absolute star. The amazing @manoushka_z_breeveld @jettymathurin @brookmeetsworld . A very special shout out to @elviraporcedda for endlessly working on the screenplay with me, you are my favourite person to yap with. Always. “I’m nocturnal. I have to go to a place where I feel alone, in my kind of internal imaginary world” - @mandyelsayegh This film was made in connection with the exhibition ‘Figure, Field, Grid’ by artist Mandy El-Sayegh. She transforms the space into an all-encompassing installation in which image, material and meaning come together layer by layer. Showing and exploring mental health in ‘Regen in Augustus’ feels diabolical while fighting off this seasonal depression. Nonetheless, its been such a relief to share with the world.
