Our next sail is set.

In June 2027, @peggymarkel and I will return to the Tyrrhenian Sea for six days aboard a 68-ft private sailboat, meandering from cove to harbor through a string of small islands where Italy feels intimate, local, and wonderfully removed from the summer crowds.

At the heart of this year’s journey is an exploration of thresholds: what we are leaving behind, what is beginning to emerge, and the art of working with the wind rather than against it.

Part culinary adventure, part coaching retreat, and unlike anything else we do.

We create so much unnecessary suffering by comparing where we are to where we think we should be by now.

There is real freedom in owning, and even appreciating, what’s true: the work you’ve done, what you know, the experiences you’ve had, the person you are right now.

No one is asking you to be further along than you are.

So why are you?

Save the date: Introducing The Wonder Series — a new ongoing program from the Porfia Project.

The first chapter, Cultivate: from essence to expression, is a collaboration with my dear friend, leadership coach @ashleywick (spending the year in Uruguay, all the way from Boulder, Colorado).

A soulful journey through a creative lens, up in the hills of Garzón — play, create, meet whatever wants to come forth.

We spend a lot of time waiting to feel certain before making big decisions.

Often the meaning comes later.

I watched the wing foilers skimming across the sea like butterflies and my daughter skateboarding one day.

Made me think about how we each have our own life dance. If you pay attention, you can catch a glimpse of someone’s inner life by the way they move through the world.

Some people glide with the ease of water. Others with the determination of stone.

Early morning beach walk in Troncoso.

The contrast in this photograph made me think about absolutes.

I’ve been paying more attention whenever I hear the words ‘always’ or ‘never’. Those words usually tell me more about my critical state of mind than they do about reality.

They’ve become one of my most reliable cues that there’s something here worth getting curious about.

We’ve been told that success comes from becoming one thing.

I don’t think that’s true.

Every time we hide a part of ourselves to fit a formula, it kinks our aliveness. And aliveness is one of our most reliable guides.

I’ve realized I’m drawn to photography for the same reason I’m drawn to coaching. Both ask me to pay attention and see the essence of a person or a place.

Your genius isn’t a job title or a niche. It’s a current that can flow through many things, if you let it.

Our job isn’t to force that current into a single channel. It’s to trust where it wants to flow. by @ashleywick
