think collaging, watercolor, sketching, art supplies galore & yoga that meets you exactly where you are.

a week to move, make, explore, and simply enjoy being somewhere beautiful.

Have a bunch of these 5x7” abstract florals available and ready to display at @greenpointopenstudios next weekend! I love working on these - super loose and playful and is always fun to see how they come together 🌺 taken in Greenpoint, Brooklyn by @ashlibickford.art

lol I sort of didn’t mean to make a reel but then here I am and it’s kind of fun 🤷‍♀️ So am sharing - have been loving working on big pieces of raw canvas lately, revisiting and cutting them down into 5x7” bits. Makes the painting process feel carefree and the editor in me loves to find the standout moments on the canvas.

Will have a bunch of these available at @greenpointopenstudios at @fortherecordbk May 30-31 12-6!! taken in For The Record by @ashlibickford.art

New 16x20” piece I made using wet on wet technique on raw canvas. Dove into this style through @mara.onthemove ‘s Energetic Abstract 6 week workshop where we focused a ton on color mixing and theory and this process with fluid acrylics. Obsessed with the depth of color that reveals itself 🥰 Learned how to stretch my own canvas now as well and I’m pretty obsessed- feels soooo much less precious when I know I can just stretch more canvas if I’m not feeling the piece.

I think she’ll get some more zhooshing with gold and line work but here she is for now! taken in Encinitas, California by @ashlibickford.art

Ok feeling embarrassed I have barely posted on my grid here since last year’s @greenpointopenstudios 🤦‍♀️ But here we are gearing up this year’s Open Studios in a few months and excited to share what I’ve been working on!!

I took a few months away from NYC this winter to get some sunshine, space and inspiration for new artwork and practices. Here’s a look at where the journey started in my little California studio 🥰🎨 I was gifted @ohuhuart markers for Christmas (thank you @safety_spence 😘) and I was just going to town lol. Such vivid colors and this fun blend of my roots in alcohol ink and interest in developing my illustration and drawing style.

Lots of dog walks where I’ve filled my camera roll with succulents and flowers that are constantly in bloom in SoCal! Gives me so much inspo and reference material. taken in Encinitas, California by @ashlibickford.art

Easing back into filming process here - have been trying to do 20 minute a day sessions through the @art2life_world February challenge - where you practice dropping into how you are feeling and keep moving for 20 minutes. For this one I was feeling a bit heavy and weighted in my spirit and reached for these deep browns and cool blue tones which is not my typical palette at all. Of course halfway through I really needed to bring in fluorescent pink and teal - these bright colors I live off of, and suddenly the painting takes a whole new form. I love love love how art always imitates life - that the brightness of the spirit is always in there wanting to peek through.

I don’t really like these, but we always learn from process and I mixed some new muddy neutrals that I normally would never explore so it’s a win ✨ taken in Encinitas, California by @ashlibickford.art
