i think there’s a lot to be said about the last week and a half. first and foremost, i am so so grateful to even be here in the first place and the things i got to see and experience are probably close to once in a lifetime.
however, as much fun as this was, it was also really hard, and in ways i couldn’t have expected it to be. traveling with autism isn’t new to me (just the diagnosis) and i lost count of the times i uttered the words “i want to go home” or the amount of times i cried on this trip.
it’s truly bittersweet because i was constantly in a battle with myself between feeling completely wrecked and out of my routine/comfort zone and taking full advantage of the opportunity to see everything that i could.
i also think there’s a lot to be said about doing something completely new to me. as miserable as i was at times and as much as i wished i could transport home in an instant, i actually survived this trip. i was out of my comfort zone more than i was in it, and i (for the most part) assimilated fairly well to the new environments. moral of the story is, i found out just how difficult traveling abroad can be, but also just how pushing myself to get there could be so rewarding.
and to Portugal and England, i will dream about catching crabs and shifting with my left hand until i’m able to make it back, but until then, thank you for the new life experiences:) taken in Portugal by @ashtonhaddock
