POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hi everyone! 🍃

I'm Ash (or Felix) and I'm fairly new to using social media in any way other than *watching* others or throwing out the occasional post and mostly hating it. Do I need a fancy intro post? Probably not. Do I find it weirdly vulnerable? Absolutely.

I'm hoping that with this account, I can connect to fellow nature lovers and campaigners, share a bit about my work, and find my kind of people.

My favourite birds are Oystercatcher, Bittern and Curlew and my favourite prehistoric animals are Spinosaurus and Mosasaurus.
I am seeing a pattern...

Tell me what your favourite animals are!

Did you know that kingfishers can play dead?

A few weeks ago, this gorgeous juvenile male kingfisher was captured and safely ringed under @btobirds licence.

If you didn't know much about bird ringing (or bird banding in the US!), it's the scientific practice of carefully catching birds and fitting metal identification rings to their legs. This allows us to gather valuable data regarding their movement, as each ring number is completely unique so the bird can later be identified if caught again (or dies for real) 🪶

Other important data is also recorded, such as weight, age, and wingspan.

I had an amazing morning yesterday (with three new species ringed), and I am SO grateful that I was allowed to ring and handle this gorgeous male Sparrowhawk.

Handled responsibly under @btobirds licence.

An artist/writer in the making. Or perhaps just a Magpie being rung under @btobirds licencing.

Ramshorn snail

🪱 Introducing... Wilbert The Worm. I made him for some fun events at @bbowt_ndc. He is huge and made of paper mache, and hopefully, many children will feed him apples in the coming days. 🍎

Chiffchaff or Willow Warbler? You decide

(It's a Willow Warbler, but I can hardly tell them apart without doing in hand identification like checking wing emargination)
