I had a beautiful conversation with Zimbabwean singer Ashley Nkiwane about music, loss, faith, culture and the healing power of finding your own voice.

Ashley began writing music after the loss of her father. Through grief, she found strength in music — transforming a difficult chapter of her life into something creative and meaningful.

We also spoke about her Ndebele heritage and her journey towards embracing her sound when singing in her father’s native language. I love the way Ashley is allowing her culture and language to become an authentic part of her identity as an artist.

Her faith in God and her belief in the healing power of music also influence the way she sees her future. As a social worker, she hopes to bring music into her work to help, connect with and support others.

This was such a special conversation — a reminder that even from difficult experiences, something beautiful can emerge.

And sometimes, finding your voice also means finding the courage to let your heritage be heard.

Every artist has a story worth hearing.

Throwback to @ekhaya_worship_festival that took place on Africa Day💃🏽
