🌟Ahhhhhh the moment has finally come! I started working on this editorial back in September and I’m so excited to share it with you now! Special thanks to @frederiquepinas for her support in bringing my vision to life. Couldn’t have done it without you! And a big thank you to everyone else from the best team! We truly delivereddd!! 🌟

It feels super surreal to see a small idea from my mind materialize into reality! I‘m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. This feels major! First time organizing such a big project, handling styling, casting and production & all for @papermagazine !! I poured so much work into this & I’m proud of myself.

I hold this editorial dear to my heart because I hope to offer representation for other queer (femme) women. I also wanted to take on an ambitious production to explore my creativity and prove to myself what I’m capable of creatively. And I’m beyond happy with how it turned out. Hope you love it as much as I do! 💋💋

Sevdaliza is an Iranian-born and Netherlands-based independent artist, composer, singer, songwriter, director, mother, and human. With her genre-defying music and medium-defying art, described by her as ‘female free expression’ or ‘ancient futurist’, she has emerged as a trailblazing figure in the world of music and artistry, earning her a dedicated global following. Her journey is nothing short of remarkable, with a consistent commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and politically advocating for the marginalized through her work.

From performing at festivals like Primavera Sound in front of 50 thousand spectators to her recent EP ‘Raving Dahlia’, created with the help of the AI-generated alter ego Dahlia, this interview explores her creative process, her journey in the music industry as a woman of color and the significance of vulnerability in her music.

⭐️ A little interview I did a while back for @hetparool written/shot by @carlywollaert

How would you describe your style? “The queer scene in Amsterdam has really helped me discover my style. No outfit is ever too outrageous, which is incredibly inspiring and encouraging. My style leans more towards the feminine with a slightly slutty edge, but I experiment a lot and love contrasting aesthetics. If I wear something preppy, I’ll pair it with a punk element, like this choker.”

I feel most confident when I look interesting and my outfit feels cunty or extravagant. It sparks all kinds of reactions, but ultimately it’s about how good I feel about myself. I like to stand out—my greatest fear is looking boring. I’m not fazed by unwanted attention from men; I’ve developed thick skin. I don’t dress for them anyway—I dress for myself, the gays, and the girls!”

How do you put an outfit together? “It often starts with one specific item and then I build around that. Sometimes, I like to think about it the night before, when I’m half asleep and dreaming. I’ll wake up with a fully-formed outfit idea in my head. To avoid stress, I also have photos of my outfits on my phone. When I need inspiration, I just scroll through them and immediately know my options.”

What does clothing mean to you? “Fashion is an art form—a way to express yourself and channel your creativity. For me, it’s just about having fun. What I find disappointing is that fashion is often tied to status, especially in the industry. If your outfit isn’t considered ‘cool,’ people treat you differently. In the end, we’re all human—let’s be kind to each other.”

What are you wearing? “I’m wearing a skirt I thrifted in Berlin. The motorcycle boots and top are both from Vinted, the bag is also secondhand and the lace panties are from Bol.com.
