#Measles is a highly contagious viral disease caused by a virus, primarily affecting children and spreading easily among unvaccinated or under-vaccinated populations. 

While Bangladesh is one of the worst affected countries by measles, it is making a comeback in several other countries in South Asia. Experts point to widening vaccination gaps, disruptions to immunisation, population movement, malnutrition, and misinformation as some of the factors driving the resurgence.

We are thrilled to announce that Asian Dispatch, in collaboration with Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) and Science Journalists Association of India (SJAI), has launched a climate-focused solutions journalism training and story accelerator exclusively for Asian Dispatch members and journalists.

The programme begins with a two-day training and provides an opportunity to five selected Indian newsrooms/journalists to report on stories focusing on nature-based solutions under climate change. Through this programme, we are focusing on providing mentorship and editorial support to these selected participants to enhance evidence and solutions-based journalism.

A regular trip to her maternal home turned into a nightmare for 43-year-old Manoshi Goswami when she found herself and her seven-year-old daughter stuck in the middle of floodwaters in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar district in Nazira town. 

Goswami reached Sundarpukhuri village in Nazira on July 10 and travelled to Golaghat district (approximately 100 kms) with her daughter to visit her relatives in the morning on July 19. It had rained continuously the previous night and by late afternoon the water levels had started rising rapidly. 

Goswami's 85-year-old mother was stuck at home as water started entering their home. 

This is Manoshi Goswami's story but several others in Nazira found themselves stuck due to the flooding on July 19 with no or little help from the authorities.

Christianez Ratna Kiruba travelled to Sundarpukhuri village and spoke to several locals who told her about what they faced. Residents spoke about the struggles of elderly, children, women, and young girls. They also highlighted the fact that there was no help they got from the rescue teams or the administration.
