'The Early Spring,' a Youku workplace romance starring Jing Boran and Sun Qian, has become the highest-ranked Chinese mainland drama in the history of Netflix's Global Non-English TV chart. The series landed at No. 2 for the week of August 24 to 30, 2026, days after premiering simultaneously on Youku and Netflix on August 26. Analysts say the milestone signals a shift beyond the costume and wuxia dramas that have historically led Chinese exports, with contemporary urban stories now proving they can travel just as widely overseas.
