This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but here we go…

This is my birth mother, Lela, lovingly known as Sabrina to most. She transitioned from this side of life on September 3rd after 69 years.

Life was not fair to her. She battled severe mental illnesses for much of her life, which took away so much of who she was at her core: an honest, kind, genuine, and loving soul.

My mother and I had a strained and difficult relationship for many years until we ultimately became estranged. Last night, I cried from my soul—for her, for myself, for my brother, and for all the things I so deeply wish could have been.

I’ll carry on her legacy through the blessing of life I am afforded because she GAVE me life and through her granddaughters, Ella and Olivia. She never got to meet them in person, but I know she’s whispered to their sweet souls.

My mother was so much more than her diseases. She loved to write and was amazing at it. We shared a love for poetry. She was strong, fierce, and headstrong. She loved the Isley Brothers, children, sweets, and made a MEAN breakfast of grits, eggs, and buttered toast. She took me to my first concert and loved watching Nick at Nite with me before we fell asleep.

Sabrina was a great mother when her body allowed her to be. She was always proud of my brother and me. I was her “pumpkin,” and we were each other’s “shoe-booty.”

Above all else, my mother LOVED the Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her being. Even in the worst times, her faith never left. I know she is resting well with the Lord. She has been made new. She’s in her right mind, her heart is free, and all of the chains have been broken.

I love you, Mom. I pray with everything in me that you knew that even through your last days. I know you loved me.

Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers, especially my brother and me. Every second of life is so, so precious.

5:00 AM wake-up. Early morning gym session. Start of a 13-hour deputy sergeant shift.

6:00 AM wake-up. Breakfast for the girls. Get them dressed. School drop-off. Back home for an 8.5-hour day as a clinical program manager.

Pick up the littles. Head home. After-school snacks. Cook dinner. End of the 13-hour shift. Sit down and eat as a family. Fold loads of laundry. Give baths. Read books. Bedtime for the kids.

And then, somehow, another full day is done. 🤍

But these aren’t just things we “have” to do. They’re all the things we’re blessed to do together—the life we get to build, raise, manage, and sometimes barely keep up with 😂—because of the love God has blessed us to share.

And at the end of it all—at the end of every long, busy, beautiful day—we still get to choose each other. Over and over again. Without pause. Without hesitation.

After …

✅ A 90th birthday celebration
✅ A 7-day family cruise to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico & the Virgin Islands
✅ Two months of summer camp complete with weekly field trips & swimming
✅ Two solo trips for mommy & daddy
✅ And a last hoorah weekend at an Orlando resort & water park …

We have wrapped up our busy, BLESSED, and fun-filled summer and are headed back to school for more adventures of learning & growing!

Happy first day of FIRST grade to our bright star, Ella Grey, & happy first(ish) day of pre-K 3 to our spicy Livi girl. May God continue to guide you and always fill your hearts with a yearn for knowledge.

Today is an extra blessed day as we celebrate 3 amazing years with our spicy baby, Olivia Elise. 💜

You are love personified, bringing so much joy, laughter, and light to everyone around you. God knew exactly what He was doing when He made you—full of personality, fearless, sweet, and just the right amount of sass.

Watching you grow has been one of our greatest blessings, and we’re so grateful God chose us to be your parents. We pray you always know His love, walk confidently in His purpose, and never lose the bright light that makes you so special.

August 2025 seems like an eternity ago. In that short eternity, our bright star, Ella Grey, completed her Kindergarten year, mastering almost all of her subject areas and then some! She is already learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponents, and her last standardized test scored her reading level equivalent to that of a typical child finishing the THIRD grade! Our little spicy, Olivia, is potty training extraordinarily well and will be transitioning to pre-K2 soon. She loves playing with her big sister and her “Bop-Bop” (our dog, Bella), and she revels in any outside playtime. Lately she likes to say her prayers, and they are the sweetest prayers I ever did hear! We are SO proud of our baby girls and so honored to raise these sweet, beautiful, kind-hearted GENIUS 💫✨! What a blessing ❣️! On to a fun-filled summer we go ☀️🌻🍉😎!

I’m sure you all noticed my slightly obnoxious slew of posts from #FAMUhomecoming2025 (NOT sorry, BTW). I purposely sat on this one. This picture represents such a full circle moment for me, for us. On Friday Bran and I celebrated our illustrious university and our incoming class’s 15 year reunion right back where we met: Potbelly’s in Tallahassee. He loves to tell the story of our first encounter and I’ve always denied it, but 13 years later I’ll finally admit that, yes, hyped up by my best friend, I was the one choosin’ that night. BUT he chose right back. And we have chosen each other every day since, and, by God’s sweet grace, have cultivated a love so deep and so rich, it had to be BLACK (#BlackLove ✊🏽) and come from an #HBCU. I am endlessly grateful to my university for many things: My husband, my best friend, my confidant, my COMEDIAN, my provider, my protector, my truth-teller, my baby-daddy, THE REALEST, my heart … is number one 🧡💚. Thank you for seeing me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for loving me. May a love like this find you; may our story inspire yours.

We’ve reached another milestone! Happy 6th birthday to our first angel baby, Ella Grey! Pure love, light, honesty, and joy shine from your spirit, baby girl. God made you so very special. The weirdest sweetest phenomenon struck me when I saw these pictures of ‘Livi and me. Creating a little human with someone you love, carrying them and birthing them to life, and then looking at their little face to see your own face staring back is a gift so precious that no words can really explain it. Such an all-encompassing love sits in my heart for my girls. I love you like I love myself, and it’s the best thing I’ll ever do 💕.
