This was the reality of the situation in Los Angeles yesterday. The protests began so peaceful and organized. Community supporting community. It was not until we were met with unprovoked violence from the cops & troops that chaos ensued. We were met with tear gas, rubber bullets, and flashbangs for peacefully practicing our 1st amendment rights.

One of the biggest lessons I've taken away from Trending Up is that meaningful conversations don't reTrending Up 📈 — learning how to work with people you don't always agree with.

One of the biggest lessons I've taken away from the Trending Up fellowship is that meaningful conversations don't require everyone in the room to think the same way.

During our roundtable discussion, we had the opportunity to sit down, exchange ideas, ask difficult questions, listen to different perspectives, and talk about politics and the issues affecting our communities.

And sometimes, we disagreed.

But that's part of the work.

Being able to work across differences doesn't mean abandoning your values or pretending disagreements don't matter. It means learning how to listen, communicate your own perspective clearly, find areas where cooperation is possible, and understand why someone might see an issue differently than you do.

In a political environment where disagrquire everyone in the room to think the same way.

And sometimes, we disagreed.

But that's part of the work.

In a political environment where disagreement can quickly become division, experiences like this remind me how important it is to actually talk to one another.

You may walk away still disagreeing.

But hopefully, you also walk away understanding each other a little better.

That's what growth looks like.

Trending up. Learning. Growing. Building community. 📈

One of the most valuable parts of this journey has been having the opportunity to learn more about politics, civic engagement, public policy, organizing, and the people working every day to create change in their communities.

Being part of a fellowship isn't just about what you already know. It's about being willing to listen, ask better questions, challenge your own understanding, and learn from people with different experiences and perspectives.

For me, that means continuing to understand how politics actually works, how policy affects everyday people, how stories can shape civic conversations, and how we can make complicated political issues easier for our communities to understand.

I'm still learning. I'm still growing.

But we're trending up. 📈

And I'm grateful for every conversation, connection, lesson, and opportunity along the way.

🌼This book is a celebration of creativity, belonging, biological and chosen family, creating new and honoring generations-old traditions. It was truly a joy to get to illustrate it! I was given the freedom to pour so much of my own experiences and memories into the illustrations (as well as my partner’s).

🌵I am so lucky I get to be part of this series, I feel it is contributing to continue creating a world of inclusivity, where every kid can be who they are, plus tacos de nopal are one of my absolute favorite meals, the tangy, fresh flavor of nopal makes my heart full with joy (and my stomach too!).

Today, Antonio’s New Tacos / Los nuevos tacos de Antonio is officially out in the world. 🌮💛

This book began as an idea years ago, then became drafts, conversations, revisions, illustrations, and so much waiting. And now it belongs to readers.

I’m feeling grateful, a little emotional, and very aware of how many people helped carry this story to this moment.

I hope Antonio, Abuela Mari, and the amigues find their way into homes, classrooms, libraries, and the hands of children who see something familiar, joyful, or possible in these pages.

The way I literally checked out of the hospital early because nothing was going to stop me from celebrating @sno__globe’s wedding with the glorious maid of honor and my bff @ivebecomesonam. What a beautiful celebration and gathering to honor the love between two soulmates; Sonia & Antony. Last night we ate and danced the pain away.

Posting this as I eat the most delectable finger licking wedding leftovers. Cut me open and I’ll bleed Murgh Mughlai.
