This summer, some of A Single Bite’s most dedicated supporters opened their homes to friends, family, and neighbors for a series of intimate gatherings we call Friendraisers.

Over good food, cold drinks, and meaningful conversation, guests learned more about our mission, the growing need for nutritional support in our community, and the difference we can make together.

Food is more than what’s on the plate. It’s connected to our health, our memories and our community. 🌱

A Single Bite recently brought a modified version of our Real Food Education program to culinary students at SUNY Sullivan’s Liberty campus.

Alongside Chef Foteini (Faye) Handrinos and Chef Michael Benedetto, A Single Bite’s Liz Stretch led students in a conversation about real, processed and ultra-processed foods, where our food comes from and the connection between food and community health.

For these future culinary professionals, it was an opportunity to look beyond how food is prepared and explore the important role they can play in building a healthier, stronger Sullivan County.

🌽 Behind every meal is a farmer who cares.

For years, Jerry Skoda has grown food specifically for A Single Bite, helping ensure our neighbors have access to fresh, local produce. Bushels of beautiful summer squash are already making their way to our kitchen, with sweet corn just a week or two away.

Though retired, Jerry continues to put in the long hours and hard work of farming—not for recognition, but to help feed those facing food insecurity in our community.

We simply couldn't do what we do without generous farmers like Jerry.

Today is Hunger Action Day. 🧡

Here in Sullivan County, roughly 14.8% of our neighbors face food insecurity — including 1 in 4 local children.

At A Single Bite, we see the need firsthand. Every week, we prepare and deliver more than 1,500 fresh, scratch-made meals to families across Sullivan County.

This Hunger Action Day, join us in turning awareness into action:

- Wear orange and share why hunger relief matters to you
- Volunteer to help sort food, pack meals or make deliveries
- Make a donation — every $10 helps provide a healthy meal for a local family
- Share our work and help more people understand the need right here in our community

Hunger and health are deeply connected. Together, we can make sure more of our neighbors have access to the nourishing food they need.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Bonnie! ❤️

Every Thursday, Bonnie spends two hours packing meals for our Meal Program, helping ensure fresh, nourishing food reaches our Sullivan County neighbors.

Bonnie first learned about A Single Bite during the pandemic and knew she wanted to get involved. A flyer in her mailbox gave her the final nudge to sign up.

When she's not volunteering, Bonnie spends her time tending to her farm, caring for her rescue animals, and working as a physical therapist specializing in hippotherapy.

We're so grateful to have Bonnie as part of our volunteer community!

Behind A Single Bite is someone who has poured her heart into its mission from the very beginning. ❤️

Since A Single Bite’s founding in 2019, Executive Director Audrey Garro has worked tirelessly to bring real, local food and nutrition education to our neighbors throughout Sullivan County.

What began here at home has grown into a powerful model for bringing communities together around food — addressing food insecurity, improving health, and creating lasting change through education and local partnerships.

Audrey works closely with our staff, Board of Directors, contributors, grant administrators, and community partners to continue growing A Single Bite’s reach and impact. But beyond the programs, partnerships, and numbers, her commitment to this community is at the heart of so much of what we do.

We’re incredibly grateful for Audrey’s leadership, compassion, and unwavering belief that everyone deserves access to real, nourishing food.

Our sixth Annual Golf Outing was one for the books!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for a beautiful day on the course in support of A Single Bite. To our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who helped make the day possible — we are so grateful.

And a very special thank you to @roscoemountainclub for hosting the event.
