Strange article BUT everything that's wrong with US Soccer. People believe anything...

So MLSNEXT has been around for 6 years. The average age of the US Men's National Team is 27 years old. Yet that "Academy system" is why they are doing so well?

Think... Think.... Think... 🤔 Can someone please make this make sense? 😂

Expectation - make it make sense?

As a kid growing up you'd look at the fixtures. You'd look for the tough games to prove your worth & then the "easier" games in which you could "smash" a Team. Even the Center Backs had a chance of scoring. You were pumped. No adult motivation needed.

Yet the generation of today find a way get anxious in games they are expected to win. Parents make excuses. We build skill, athleticism, etc. yet neglect to build character. 🤪

Then rather ironically, say their dream is to play Pro Soccer. A career where thousands of people pay to watch you perform with the expectation of winning... 🤔 Can someone make it make sense?

Great facilities, great views BUT is that the problem with US Soccer? It's a race to the bottom because proper foundations aren't installed initially.

When you come from an affluent area how can you be as hungry as someone with nothing?

Now when you struggle to compete & dominate against the former that should set off alarm bells. It is a glimpse into your ultimate destiny. Because when you come up against those hungry Players with nothing to lose they'll eat you for breakfast.

ASJE, just like all Elite Sport, it's a mentality!

How will your car ride home be this weekend?

Last weekend the 2016's took the long trip back from Long Island with that "feeling" after an impressive performance & win vs a Pro Academy Team.

For some, they couldn't stop smiling the entire way home despite their exhaustion. Others left everything on the field & passed out.

ASJE boys, what will your ride home this weekend be? I own it. You decisions will define your outcome. 🧠💪

A proper ASJE "kid warm up". 💪😂❤️

Our 2017's suffered a difficult defeat Saturday. I knew they were going to come into their game Sunday stressed & anxious. So I did what I do at ASJE, thought out of the box & created an alternative warm up. 😂

Chasing my dog, rolling down hills, hanging from bars, etc. No ball was touched. NO NEED! Last week's training prepared us for that... We just needed mental preparation.

Just incase you wondered, the boys played great. Flying into tackles. Being brave & wanting the ball under pressure. And yes, they beat a previously undefeated Team.

Morr Soccer is NOT always the answer to success.

My favorite thing to ask my Players to do when they are stressed or anxious about an upcoming game...

I ask them to count from their age to 16... I then ask them to count from 17 to 80. Most get to 31/32 & stop because they get bored. Still MANY years from my age! 😫

I tell them.... "That is how long you are going to be an adult for. Being an adult is a time to worry & stress. Being a kid goes by so quickly. So be a kid & make the most of it".

Afterall, every happy adult I know still knows how to be a kid from time to time. 💪❤️

Ever wonder why US Youth Soccer appears to be a race to the bottom?

At U9 & U10 Players skip the basic fundamentals, for technical focus. Short term it brings success. Yet at U13/U14 they don't know how to use their body. Their bodies struggle to cope with the intensity & injuries set in. Players play 50-100 games at U10 a year BUT 10-20 at U15 because they are always injured. 🤦‍♂️🤔

Yet, the Players who built the foundations begin to come into their own. At the right time. When it really begins to matter....

At A.S. Junior Elite we do it differently. Foundations over simply "winning". Afterall, your house crumbles eventually with bad foundations.

Going 11v11 next year at ASJE. Breaking the mould.

At U12, when we traditionally end, Parent's often ask the same question to me... Where next & how does my son best succeed. I always reply with the same question - "do you have a second passport?".

For those that don't, it's a few years of playing in the "top League" but only playing 2/3 of each game. Training in groups of 25 plus. Four Club sessions per week should be enough, but you have to attend multiple private training sessions per week just to "keep up".

Sounds exciting doesn't it? At 12 & 13 is that's what is needed for development considering the US system? It's not like Europe, if I'm not mistaken, very few in the US are playing Adult Soccer at U15/U16. Everyone stays their own age group until College (which is an issue in itself).

For the 2026/2027 Season A.S. Junior Elite will be having a 2013/2014 Boys 11v11 Team. If you are interested in trying out please email asjuniorelite@gmail.com.
