💜 Happy Friendship Day! 💜

Friendship brings joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging. For many women with disabilities, opportunities to build meaningful friendships become limited after graduation. At ArtsAbility, we’ve been creating spaces for connection, friendship, and community for over a decade, and we’re proud to continue that mission in our fourth year as a nonprofit.

🎨✨ Creativity, connection, and inclusion in action!

ArtsAbility was thrilled to partner with Moore College of Art & Design for an accessible art workshop led by their amazing graduate students. Our participants had such a wonderful time exploring their creativity, trying new things, and experiencing the joy of art in a welcoming and supportive environment.

A heartfelt thank you to the talented students, faculty, and staff for welcoming our participants with such kindness, encouragement, and inclusion. Your commitment to creating accessible spaces where everyone can participate, express themselves, and feel a true sense of belonging made this experience so special.

🌈✨ The Rainbow Connection: Stitching Skills, Confidence & Community ✨🌈

Thanks to the generous support of the Brandywine Quilters Guild, the women of ArtsAbility’s Life Skills Textile Arts Program had the opportunity to learn and grow through the art of sewing and quilting.

Throughout the program, participants developed valuable skills including hand sewing, machine sewing, fine motor coordination, sensory-motor development, following directions, problem-solving, teamwork, and creative expression. These are important life and vocational skills that can support greater independence and future employment opportunities.

🧵 Created comfort quilts for shelter cats
💙 Made pillowcases for children in the hospital
🌈 Designed and completed their very own quilt, “Rainbow Connection,” with the support of Brandywine Quilters Guild volunteers

The finished quilt was proudly displayed at the Brandywine Quilters Guild Quilt Show, showcasing the creativity, dedication, and abilities of the women of ArtsAbility.

This project was about more than sewing—it was about building confidence, learning new skills, giving back to the community, and demonstrating the incredible things people of all abilities can achieve when given the opportunity to learn and create.

A heartfelt thank you to the Brandywine Quilters Guild for investing in our participants and helping make this meaningful experience possible.

Autism Acceptance Month 💙

At Artsability, we celebrate the beauty of every mind and the strength in every journey. Our neurodiverse women artists continue to inspire us with their creativity, resilience, and joy.

This month, our group poured their hearts into creating mini quilts to be donated to cats in local shelters 🐾🧵 Each stitch tells a story of patience, growth, and kindness. These are more than quilts—they are expressions of confidence, connection, and care.

We are deeply grateful to the Brandywine Quilters Guild for believing in our mission and supporting our Life Skills Sewing and Empowerment Program. With heartfelt thanks to Ms Janice, Ms Mary and Ms Heather for guiding, encouraging, and uplifting our participants every step of the way.

Together, we are building skills, nurturing independence, and celebrating every unique ability. Different is not less—it is something to be honored 💙

National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month 💙

This year’s theme, “We’re Here: Then, Now, Always,” reminds us that differently abled individuals have always been an important part of our communities and continue to shape them every day.

Earlier this month, our Artsability community came together to create birdhouses to help provide shelter during the colder months — a simple project rooted in care, creativity, and connection. It was also a meaningful way for our differently abled community to connect with nature and support the world around us.

We are especially grateful for Miss Debbie and Miss Darlene, beloved high school life skills teachers who continue to give back to our community. Between them, they bring over 70 years of experience, compassion, and dedication to this mission of awareness and love!

Our Differently Abled Women Artists kicked off their first Crafternoon of the year with a warm, beachy vibe. 🌊🐚

Our wonderful high school intern, Mary Anna, did an amazing job leading the lesson on sea creatures and shell art, and everyone created their own shell craft to take home. A big thank you to Mary Anna! The women learned so much, had fun, and were so happy to be together again. We cannot wait for the fun to continue next time.
