ASLAN NTUMBA*

Visual Artist / Ceramicist / Photographer*

Aslan is a Visual artist born in east London who creates visual poetry through the use of photography and pottery. His work follows themes of permanence and fragility through his use of a medium that flows and is transformed but then finally distilled into a decisive moment which is immortalised. Aslan’s practice is led by curiosity of the natural world colliding with human existence, and how has seemingly random series of events lead to such absurdity. He finds that by noticing the seemingly insignificant oddities and questions them through juxtaposition’s which give him joy and a sense of experiencing life to the fullest. Having come from a film-making background, studying film at the university of Kent, Aslan weaves subtle narrative into his work through the use of details to world-build and bring viewers into the moment in which he is trying to create or capture. Other themes in his work explore, future thinking, organic growth, nature’s resilience, memories and the sublime.

Brecon beacon vases.
This small series is a continued exploration on combined photography with pottery. I often liken these two practices as capturing a fluid moment into a decisive memory. Clay is fluid, moving and mailable. It's filled with so much potential for creation but once it is fired takes on a whole new role and becomes a resilient testimony of time. And often are relics of tradition from the past. Where as photography does a similar thing of capturing the ever flowing passage of time and immortalise the decisive moment and turns it into a tangible memory by @aslan_does_pottery

Based of a photo series exploring where manmade objects meet nature and how the wild reclaims spaces. I've always been interested in capturing moments and immortalising the passaging of time through photography and now been interested in exploring that through clay by @aslan_does_pottery

Make Your Own Masters - [Aslan x MYOM]

Over the last year I've been working as a part of a creative collective called 'Make Your Own Masters' (MYOM)

We are a radical commitment to self direction

As a part of this course, I've been developing my practice as a visual artist combining my Photographic eye with my Pottery skills to develop myself as an Artist.

And as we draw to an end we are putting on an exhibition to show case our finest work and show our development as respective practitioners

So please interact and let me know if you'd like to see my work in person 🥰

But to make this a reality we need help to raise funds to help cover the venue costs

Any small contributions to our fundraiser will greatly help push 11 emerging artists and help prove that alternative decentralised education is a viable option to create a creative career.

Even if every friend puts as little as £10 it will make the world of difference in making our exhibition by @aslan_does_pottery
