Two conferences. Two states. Two weeks. And somewhere in the middle of it all, a book launch. 📖

Well, if that isn’t a rather lovely way to bookend a journey, I don’t know what is.

The timing has been quite extraordinary.

On one hand, I’ve been sharing how A SMART MOVE began. Going back to 2013, remembering the early days, the risks, the decisions, and those moments when I said yes before figuring out how on earth to make it happen.

And on the other, here I am, travelling to conferences, speaking on stage alongside professionals I respect, and meeting people who recognise A SMART MOVE from social media.

I mean, really?! 🥹

There’s something quite surreal about that.

When you’re building a business, you’re so busy getting on with it that you rarely stop to see how far you’ve come. There’s always another client, another challenge, another idea.

And then you have a couple of weeks like these.

Where you’re reminded of where you started and shown just how much has changed.

I feel enormous pride. Not just in what we’ve built, but in everyone who helped build it. Hayden, our wonderful team, our clients, and the relationships we’ve made along the way.

Because none of this happens on your own.

And perhaps what means the most is realising that the little business I took a chance on years ago has become something people beyond San Diego actually know and recognise.

That’s quite something.

For all my big mouth and big talk, I’m a softie at heart. And these past few weeks have certainly brought that out.

I’m incredibly grateful for the invitations, conversations, recognition, and chance to learn from brilliant people in our industry.

It feels like we’ve been celebrating the beginning of our story while catching a glimpse of what might come next.

And if the book launch taught me anything, it’s that sometimes you have to look back to appreciate how much is still ahead.

Here’s to the next chapter. I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one. 🥂 by @asmartmovesd

Convinced everyone falls into one of these two categories. Which one are you? 👀

PERSON #1: THE PEOPLE PERSON 🗣️

You're the one who wants to be out in the thick of it.

Meeting people, shaking hands, making connections, putting faces to names.

You'd rather have five conversations in five different places than sit behind a desk for five hours.

Your calendar is packed, your phone is ringing, and somehow, talking to MORE people gives you MORE energy.

You thrive on relationships, opportunities, and a little bit of spontaneity.

PERSON #2: THE BEHIND-THE-SCENES BRAIN 🧠

You're the one making sure everything actually WORKS.

You love a good system, a well-organized schedule, and a plan that doesn't require 47 phone calls to execute.

You'd rather solve a complicated problem than make small talk with 20 strangers.

You're thinking three steps ahead, spotting problems before they happen, and quietly making everyone else's day run smoother.

You don't need to be the face of the operation. You'd rather be the reason it succeeds.

And the funny thing is, BOTH are absolutely essential.

In our family business, I'm very much Person #1. Give me a room full of strangers and I'll happily leave knowing half of them. 😂

My son Hayden? Much more Person #2. He's brilliant at the operations, systems, and all the things that make the business run.

We couldn't be more different in some ways, but that's precisely why we work so well together.

So, which one are YOU?

🗣️ TEAM 1: Put me in front of the people.

🧠 TEAM 2: Leave me behind the scenes to make the magic happen.

No sitting on the fence. Pick your team in the comments! 👇 by @asmartmovesd

Holy cow. We did NOT see this coming 🥹

Hundreds of thousands of eyeballs on our content. Almost 200 new people following along. And all of this after just ONE MONTH of really committing to showing up here consistently.

I'm genuinely a little blown away.

The funny thing is, going viral was never the goal.

And it still isn't.

I've actually been creating content in some capacity for nearly a decade. Some of you might even remember the little videos I used to make with clients after their moves!

For me, it's always been about PEOPLE.

Building relationships.
Growing our network.
Connecting with other business owners.
Surrounding ourselves with people who inspire us, challenge us, and make us want to be better.

I've always believed your network has an enormous influence on your net worth, and not just financially.

But when you're busy running a business, finding the time to actually show up consistently is another story.

Last year, I started thinking seriously about what it might look like to put more of myself out there. To let people see the faces, personalities, and stories behind our team.

And I'll admit, there were nerves.

What if nobody cares?
What if I look ridiculous?
What if I say something completely daft on camera?

So this year, we decided to give it a proper go.

And goodness, the response ❤️

The comments, the encouragement, the familiar faces popping up, and the complete strangers taking a moment out of their day to connect with us.

THAT is what has meant the most.

We're still learning. Still figuring out what we're doing. Still getting comfortable putting ourselves out there.

And I'm sure there will be plenty of awkward moments along the way. You'll probably get to witness a few of them. 😂

But if this first month has taught me anything, it's that sometimes you've just got to put yourself out there before you feel completely ready.

To everyone who's watched, commented, shared, followed, or simply shown us a little love, THANK YOU.

We're so glad you're here. And we're only getting started. ❤️ by @asmartmovesd

Last week I had the honor our launching my first ever book and everything about the experience kind of surprised me.

I never thought of myself as particularly brave. I honestly just thought I was getting on with life.

And then someone asks you to write your life story, and suddenly you're crying over things you haven't thought about in years. ❤️

When I was invited to contribute to 'Her Next Level' alongside 21 other powerhouses females sharing the truth about growth, success and the courage to evolve I knew I had stories to tell...

But seeing them written on paper was quite another matter.

Because when you're in the middle of a big decision, you don't stand there thinking, "How courageous of me!" You're too busy working out what on earth happens next.

At 19, I arrived in New York, completely captivated by a world bigger than anything I'd known.

Years later, my husband and I packed up our family and moved from England to America. Then came the mad idea that I could buy a moving box business and turn it into something more.

None of those moments felt particularly brave at the time. An opportunity came along, something about it felt right, and I said yes.

Looking back, I can see that those decisions shaped almost everything: where we live, the business we've built, the people we've met, and the life we have together.

But I don't believe saying yes means saying yes to everything. It's knowing when an opportunity aligns with what matters to you, even if you haven't figured out every practical detail.

And it's recognizing the people who make those leaps possible. The ones who believe in you, challenge you, and are willing to come along for the ride.

Reading my chapter aloud at the launch, alongside my lovely friend @deannedillard.realestate I got emotional again. Knowing how the story ends doesn't stop the tears!

We spend so much time looking forward that we rarely stop to appreciate the person who made those decisions years ago, without knowing where they'd lead.

I'm rather proud of that 19-year-old girl. She didn't think she was brave either.

She just said yes. ❤️

I've been told I have a good head for business. Here's the proof. 😂 by @asmartmovesd

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make in business is looking for a partner who's just like them.

Why on earth would I want another me?

One is quite enough, thank you. 😂

The real magic happens when you find someone who brings an entirely different set of strengths to the table, and you have enough respect for each other to let them get on with it.

And that's what I think Hayden and I have got right.

Family dynamics can be complicated enough without adding employees, finances, big decisions, and the pressures of growing a company into the mix.

But being family doesn't automatically make you good business partners. In fact, I'd argue it makes mutual respect, accountability, and clearly defined roles even MORE important.

I don't need to be involved in every decision.

And neither does he.

We both have areas where we're strongest, and we've built a partnership that gives each of us the freedom to really lean into those strengths.

There's an enormous amount of trust involved in that.

And I think one of the biggest advantages is that neither of us has to be everything to everyone.

We can challenge each other, bring different perspectives to the table, and make decisions based on what's best for the business rather than whose idea it was.

I can confidently say we wouldn't be where we are today without Hayden.

Not simply because he's helped us grow, but because of the way he's positioned the business to keep growing.

And that's the part that really excites me.

We've already seen tremendous growth, but we're both looking at the bigger picture. What else could we build? How much further could we take this? What would be possible if we kept pushing?

We're aligned on the ambition, even if we bring very different things to achieving it.

And I think that's what makes this partnership so powerful.

We've built something pretty special together.

But I've got a feeling we're only just getting started. ❤️ by @asmartmovesd

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about running a moving company is that we're just in the business of moving people's belongings.

If only it were that simple.

We're walking into people's homes at some of the biggest turning points in their lives.

Sometimes they're celebrating a new beginning. Sometimes they're leaving behind a chapter they weren't ready to close. Sometimes they're dealing with things far bigger than a moving truck and a mountain of boxes.

And our job is to understand that.

It's why I'm so particular about the little things.

How we speak to someone who's overwhelmed.
How carefully we handle something that might not be worth a lot of money but means the absolute world to its owner.
How quickly we put something right when we've made a mistake.

Because people might forget how many boxes we packed, but they won't forget how we made them feel during a difficult day.

And I want our crews to understand that too.

I'm incredibly proud of the business we've built, but I don't want to build a company that's successful on paper and forgets about the people who make it successful.

That includes the families who invite us into their homes AND the families our crews go home to every night.

That's the responsibility of running a family business that I take very seriously.

So to every client who's trusted us, recommended us, or taken a few minutes out of their day to share their experience, thank you.

You might think you're just helping someone find a good moving company.

You're helping us build the kind of company I'm proud to put my name behind. ❤️ by @asmartmovesd

A cross-country move is NOT the time to discover you've hired the wrong moving company.

Think about it...

You're handing over practically everything you own, watching it disappear into a truck, and trusting it'll arrive thousands of miles away in one piece.

I'd want to know EXACTLY who was handling that, wouldn't you?

We've been moving San Diego families and businesses since 2013. And the driving? That's only one part of a successful long-distance move.

The real work starts before the truck leaves.

If you're moving to or from San Diego, here's what working with us actually looks like:

1️⃣ You don't have to pack your own house. Seriously. We offer full-service or customized packing, bring the supplies, and handle everything from kitchen cupboards to furniture you haven't the faintest idea how to dismantle.

2️⃣ We move homes and businesses anywhere in the United States. East Coast, West Coast, wherever life is taking you. We coordinate the crews, trucks, drivers, and equipment to get your belongings there.

3️⃣ We ask the awkward questions early. Will a large truck fit down your driveway? Does that sofa fit through the doorway? Does anything need special handling? Better to solve those problems on paper than with a truck waiting outside.

4️⃣ You know what you're paying for. We provide personalized quotes, transparent pricing, and no hidden fees. Moving is expensive enough without unpleasant surprises.

5️⃣ You get actual humans to talk to. People who understand your move, know what's important to you, and won't make you feel like a nuisance for asking questions.

Because here's the thing.

A $26 million estate and a two-bedroom family home have something important in common: the people moving are trusting us with their lives packed into boxes.

And we don't take that lightly.

🚨🚨🚨 Moving to or from San Diego?

The movers had already loaded the truck when our client realized something very important:

Her new house keys were packed somewhere inside it.

Which is a very good reminder that there are some things that should NEVER go on the moving truck.

Save this list for move day:

1️⃣ KEYS
New house keys, old house keys, garage remotes, gate fobs and storage keys.

2️⃣ IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
IDs, passports, closing paperwork, leases, insurance documents and anything you may need that day.

3️⃣ MEDICATIONS
Especially anything you need daily. Keep prescriptions and basic medical essentials with you.

4️⃣ WORK ESSENTIALS
Laptop, chargers, headphones, hotspot and anything you’ll need before everything is unpacked.

5️⃣ PET + KID BASICS
Food, leashes, medications, favorite comfort items, diapers, bottles and pajamas.

6️⃣ FIRST-NIGHT BAG
Toiletries, change of clothes, towels, toilet paper, sheets and phone chargers.

7️⃣ VALUABLES + SENTIMENTAL ITEMS
Jewelry, cash and small irreplaceable items are better kept personally with you.

8️⃣ YOUR “I NEED THIS BEFORE WE UNPACK” BOX
Coffee maker, mugs, snacks, paper towels, scissors, basic tools...whatever keeps your household functioning while everything else is still in boxes.

And here’s the part people miss:

Don’t just label these things “OPEN FIRST.”

Keep them completely separate from anything being loaded.

Put them in your car BEFORE the movers arrive, designate one specific bag, or create a clearly marked no-load zone in the house.

Because “I know exactly which box it’s in” becomes considerably less helpful when that box is somewhere inside a fully loaded moving truck.

Save this list before your next move.

And maybe put the keys in your handbag now. by @asmartmovesd
