Save the date November 14-15 for Asmbly’s annual Maker Market 🔨vendor applications are officially open!

📍When: Nov 14-15 from 11a-5p
🏠Where: Asmbly Makerspace, 9701 Dessau Rd Ste 304, Austin, TX 78754

Our market is part of the @austinstudiotour — a free-to-attend tradition in Austin connecting people to studios, galleries and local artists.

Asmbly’s Maker Market is unique because it gives makers the chance to show customers exactly where their work comes to life. Members showcase their art alongside the CNC mill, wood lathe, pottery wheel, or sewing machine that made it possible.

To apply, vendors will donate an item to our raffle and fill out our application by Sept 18!

We are prioritizing Asmbly members for this market but are opening applications for any local makers in Austin!

We will have a vendor info session on Wednesday, Sept 10 from 6-7 PM at our makerspace and an option to attend virtually. Head to the links in our bio to register and learn more about being a vendor!

We’ll update the info session QR code with a meeting link soon so check back in if you can’t make it in person!

How does a massive makerspace keep track of how to use thousands of tools? 🛠️📚

Valerie Wilmot explains how @asmblyaustin manages its educational resources through a community driven wiki database. Every tool in the space has a dedicated page with manuals and class requirements. Because documentation is a monumental task and the organization operates primarily as a volunteer-run community, they rely heavily on their own members to contribute to the wiki and share knowledge.

Just like ASMBLY empowers local makers, we love empowering these organizations with a megaphone. A little passing of the torch, and a big moment for Asmbly. 💛

We recently came together to celebrate Valerie Wilmot and all the time, heart, and energy she’s poured into Asmbly as our volunteer Executive Director. We’re so grateful for everything she’s done to shape this community.

We’re also excited to welcome Galen Wixson as Asmbly’s first-ever paid Executive Director! 🛠️ A big milestone for our nonprofit and the start of an exciting new chapter.

This was my first time replacing the spoil board on the Laguna Swift 5’x10′ CNC. Apparently it has a lot of... "history" under all that MDF 😳
Luckily, as long as the gasket is in place the vacuum works so 🤷‍♂️

Did you know laser cutters can slice through a lot more than just wood? ⚡️

At @asmblyaustin , the lasers can handle leather, paper, and acrylic, opening up endless creative possibilities. But the most valuable tool in the shop isn’t a machine, it’s the people. Members contribute to an extensive, shared wiki that details exactly what materials can and cannot be cut safely. If you ever get stuck in the laser room, fellow makers are always eager to jump in and enthusiastically show you the ropes.
