It is with an aching heart that I share the news of my step brother Jason McFall’s passing. On October 20th, 2026 after a decade long fight, Jason lost his battle against Polycystic Kidney Disease and the brutal complications it caused. Jason was a born adventure seeker, he was fiercely funny, a wildly talented chef, loyal brother, uncle and son. He was unapologetically himself in the best way possible, and the world will be far duller without him. We have created a memorial donation page for the @nationalkidneyfoundation Foundation in his honor. Every gift, no matter how small, is meaningful to our family and will ensure that Jason’s legacy can live on through their important work. link in bio 🔗 https://kidneytribute.rallybound.org/Jasonmcfall by @asphotonyc

TALES FROM LADAKH - PT IIII, Morning at Thikse Monastery. For three days, I rose before sunrise, sped down winding roads and sprinted in the rain up what felt like an endless mountain of stone steps. Desperately hoping to witness the Monk’s morning Puja before I left Ladakh - Only to find, after arriving breathless and eager, that I had missed my chance. In Tibetan Buddhism, a puja is a sacred ceremony involving prayers, offerings, chanting, and rituals - often performed collectively at sunrise by all of the monks in the monastery. The first day, I was too late. The monks were filing quietly out of the temple right as I rolled up. The next, there were no monks at all. They had all gone to a nearby village but would supposedly return the following day. I started to feel like maybe the universe was saying “this sacred ritual just isn’t for you”. On the third and final morning, as I lunged up the hill, through a flowing river of rain, absolutely humbled by the Himalayan altitude I heard the echoes of chanting in the distance and started to laugh. I couldn’t help but be reminded of Charlotte on Sex And The City being rejected three times before the Rabbi would finally accept her as a convert. “OK Universe, I see you”. I thought with a wry smile. I just needed to prove I was willing to work for it. As I kneeled, barefoot on the floor of the temple, I closed my eyes, and felt my entire body vibrate as their chanting bounced off damp walls that had been painted more than 1,000 years before. I’m not a traditionally religious person - but in that moment I understood in a way I never have before, the importance of hope. Whether you believe in prayer, or manifesting, wishing on stars, or the power of positive thinking - there is something undeniably potent about putting our collective energy towards a positive future, with love and compassion for all. #ladakh #thikseymonastery #buddhism #natgeoindia #nikoncreators by @asphotonyc
TALES FROM LADAKH - PT III Finally answering the question on everyone’s mind “what were you doing there??” The short answer - saying Yes. To what exactly? I didn’t entirely know, but that was the whole point. I met @kevinpconnelly in college at the University of Montana and became fast friends, pulling all nighters in the darkroom, falling madly in love with the magic of film photography. In 2012 at the end of my first year in NYC he called with an opportunity to guide high school students on expeditions in remote regions of South East Asia. I immediately said Yes. That summer changed the course of my life. This became a theme in our friendship. #ladakh #himalayas #nikoncreator #travelphotographer @kevinpconnelly remained abroad for almost a decade, working as a guide, studying buddhism and meditation, and pursuing human rights based photojournalism projects. When the call came for an impromptu cross country roadtrip upon his return the answer was a swift, Yup. When he moved to Playa Del Carmen and told me to come jump in a bucket of ice to solve my stress, I said “are you insane?? That sounds awful!” Then hung up the phone and booked my flights. And when @kevinpconnelly told me he was heading back to the Indian Himalayas to lead a small group retreat, my immediate response was “well, you’re gonna need a photographer” If I’ve learned anything in our 20 year friendship is that most of life’s most profound, exciting experiences start by just saying “yes” - and figuring the rest out later. Kevin’s been visiting Ladakh since 2010, and I knew enough to know I’d never have a better opportunity to explore this majestic region. In 2021 Kevin founded @reconnect, a training organization focused on the science of stress, breathing, and nervous system regulation. In layman’s terms: he’s guided over 6,000 people globally through ice baths and breath work techniques and trained more than 100 instructors. He also wrote the book (shameless plug) “Breath Into It” which explores how breathwork can be used as a powerful tool to help overcome addiction, depression and anxiety The retreat to Ladakh fused his expertise into an adventure of equal parts expedition, we by @asphotonyc
TALES FROM LADAKH - PT II India’s northernmost region, Ladakh lies high in the western Himalayas between Pakistan and China. Once part of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, it became a separate Union Territory in 2019, and remains a heavily militarized zone. While home to both Buddhist and Muslim communities, Tibetan Buddhism has shaped the region’s culture for more than a millennium. Today, over 100 monasteries, built into cliffs and perched atop ridgelines—remain at the heart of life in this region. Its influence is felt everywhere—in the colors of prayer flags lining mountain roads, the sound of morning puja drifting through villages, and the monasteries and stupas that dot the mountainsides. It was a profound contrast for me to experience the compassion and calm of the Buddhist influence alongside frequent military checkpoints and convoys constantly passing by. #ladakh #himalayas #buddhism #natgeoindia #nikoncreator by @asphotonyc
TALES FROM LADAKH - Chapter I This June I had the privilege of venturing to India’s far North to a region in the Himalayas known as Ladakh. I’ll be diving deeper into what brought me there soon. But for now, I’ll introduce you to the main charachter’s of this story - the wild landscape and beautiful humans, who in tandem make this region unlike any I’ve ever visited. Have you ever been? Would you go? #ladakh #himalayas #natgeoindia #travelphotographer #nikoncreators by @asphotonyc
