Happy Ten Year Anniversary to What Happened to You?!!! First, this almost wasn’t an album. We had plans to record an EP with Ed Rose because we loved his work with The Casket Lottery. That would have been sick right? We scrapped that plan and decided to write a few more songs to make an album. “Errand Boy” was the first song that we errors and it’s the last song on the album. The speech over the outro of “I’m An Animal” is Ray reciting lines (or trying his best) from John Carpenter’s The Thing. He was high as hell and had a hard time reading the lines. The clip at the end of “My Little Eraser” is Ray talking to our buddy Joe Franks of @sleepinband. He did merch for us on a few tours and the audio was pulled from one of our tour videos. There’s a sound bite of Alec and Ray singing before the secret track on the album. If I’m not mistaken, that clip was recorded at Millhill Basement in Trenton. The secret track plays about a minute after “Errand Boy” ends. The song is “Thanks, But I Can Throw Myself Out” and first appeared on our split with Hanalei. If you listen closely, you might be able to hear Joe Franks yell “forever” at the end of Errand Boy. Again, another audio clip lifted from a tour video. We hunkered down at Studio Luloo in Oaklyn, NJ to fine tune all of these songs with help from Dave of Gradwell House. We ended tracking all of the songs with him @the_gradwell_house and Dear You (Jawbreaker) and Crimson (Alkaline Trio) were two sources of inspiration. The album art was created using a planetary art set. We took the album photos and the band photo in the liner notes @brianmietz’s house. He did all of the layout as well. Paper + Plastick released the album on two vinyl variants along with matching resin skulls. Our buddy Rob of @bysurpriseband drew the “morning sloth” that was featured on the coffee mug that was also available to preorder with the album. Our record release show was at Ortlieb’s in Philly. In 2015, we went over to the West Coast which ended up being our only trip to that side of the US. What’s your favorite song from the album? taken in Collingswood, New Jersey by @aspiganj

It’s been five years since our last show which was quite the gig. August is our birthday month. All three of us got a little older and a little wiser. Last month, we got together and played for a few hours. by @aspiganj

Hey Friends,
Just wanted to stop by to say that I (Kevin) was interviewed by Mark @cutoutspodcast and the episode is now live. Mark came across our LP, Every Last Piece, and reached out to me and I think that’s just the sweetest thing. Link in bio. #aspiga by @aspiganj

A Celebration of Every Last Piece:

Yesterday marked the ten year anniversary of Every Last Piece, an album that truly changed the trajectory of not only this band but my life. This was the first album that included all three members of Aspiga, as you know the band today. This is Aspiga.

I wrote a much more lengthy post on our Facebook page if you want to read it.

I could probably go on for an eternity talking about this period of my life and the band, but it probably wouldn't translate too well on social media. I feel pretty confident when I say that this is the most important collection of songs that I've ever helped create. When I listen to it, I hear three distinct identities. I hear the precision and calculation that Alec brought to the band. I hear the spontaneity and frantic energy that was the foundation of Ray's drumming. I hear the raw emotion that has always been the driving force in my songwriting. It's a punk album at heart although it's been tagged with descriptors like emo, screamo, and even post-hardcore. It's unforgiving. It's youthful. It's free of expectations. Lyrically, it comes off as very dark, but like most Aspiga songs, I think if you dig a little deeper it's about hope. It's about deconstructing yourself, finding something to hold onto, and moving forward. This was the mindset for the band. Always push on. The amps were never loud enough. We couldn't scream loud enough. We couldn't get enough of our little band. Three friends that learned a lot about life by spending endless hours in a van, playing to whoever would listen, and always looking ahead.
