Project in Hale🌿

We loved designing this patio, set against the beautiful backdrop of the orangery-style extension designed by @mistry_swire

Our aim was to bring as much planting into the patio as possible, creating a space that feels lush, inviting and connected to the garden. Formal Taxus baccata topiary domes anchor the planting beds, while little seating zones are tucked amongst the greenery to create intimate places to sit and relax.

A feature Osmanthus burkwoodii umbrella tree provides a beautiful focal point. The planting has a Mediterranean feel, bringing texture, structure and a relaxed character to the space. The brick retaining walls were chosen to complement and tie in beautifully with the existing brickwork of the house.

Project in Hale 🌿

We used natural limestone paving for the patio, creating a timeless and elegant finish that complements the stylish extension beautifully.

The warm, understated tones work seamlessly with the patio doors, bringing the whole space together for a refined and cohesive look.

Recently completed project in Hale 🌿

It was a pleasure working with @mistry_swire on this project.

A formal planting scheme creates a strong sense of structure and symmetry around the front entrance. The steps wrap around the porch, leading through to a secluded courtyard space.

The planting combines Laurus nobilis ‘Lollipop’ topiary with neat Ilex crenata hedging, creating a timeless, elegant framework that complements the architecture while keeping the overall feel refined and understated.

A simple, structured planting scheme with year-round interest and a warm, welcoming entrance.

Simon recently revisited one of our completed projects, taking in the details that began as ideas in the studio and are now part of our clients’ everyday lives.

Snapshots of the planting throughout the garden. The brief was to create a romantic planting palette, featuring soft shades of purple, pink, and white to bring a sense of elegance and seasonal interest.

Ornamental grasses are woven throughout the borders, introducing movement, texture, and a natural softness. Their graceful form contrasts beautifully with the flowering perennials, creating a planting scheme that feels both relaxed and refined.

Details of the limestone paving used throughout the scheme. We selected Zahra Beige limestone from @allgreengb for its warm, timeless character. Limestone stackers have been used on the step risers, with matching cladding to the retaining walls and as a border framing the larger-format limestone patio pavers.

The combination of different block sizes introduced rhythm, texture and subtle detailing, adding visual interest while creating a cohesive and elegant outdoor space that complements the surrounding planting and architecture.

The patio, leading directly from the kitchen, is framed by two umbrella trees, creating a welcoming transition to the garden. Generous, deep steps invite you down to the lower lawn, while layered planting softens the architecture, nestling the home into the landscape and providing beautiful views from within the kitchen.

The house features subtle pink tones in its roof tiles, so we wanted to introduce a touch of pink into the landscape design to complement this. The lounge area is centred around a herringbone clay paver feature, framed by limestone paving that wraps around it to created a defined entertaining space. Surrounded by lush planting, this inviting area is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy an evening barbecue.

We’ve enjoyed working on this planning application over the past few months, designing the landscape for a new Passivhaus in North Yorkshire alongside @progressinpractice

With stunning views across the Moors, the design responds to the site’s natural levels, helping to integrate the house into the landscape. New routes will weave through rich planting schemes and expansive meadow areas, enhancing biodiversity and creating a strong connection between the home and its surroundings. by @asri_outdoorspaces
