Dylan Capon (ASP 12 2025-27) second curated show ‘Heretic’s Spellbook’ opens on 25 August.

25/08/26 PV 6-9pm
OPEN 26/08/26-04/09/26 12-4pm

Art needs explaining. Art can be explained in many ways. Going to a museum to look at art, letting the art explain itself to you through the visits you’d take over the years. Going on a tour and have someone explain the art to you, expanding on what information is already there. Going onto study art at university and, eventually, going on to teach others about it. The gateway to all of this lies in plaques beneath the artwork and the desire to know more, but if the language isn’t understood by others, then the plaque might as well be another object.

‘Heretic’s Spellbook’ is an opportunity for the artists involved to explain themselves in whatever way they wish to with text, and for the viewer to try to hear them. Art can be thought of like a religion, and to indulge this metaphor is to say that we are Heretics of art. We practice its magic with disdain for the Deity. Or, that we revere the Deity and misuse its magic. Art school (our metaphorical church) does a good job at pushing the dogma of art, most notably the notion that if the work somehow doesn’t explain itself then it has failed. But art still needs explaining. Whatever explanations are hidden from others are made up for it in crits and portfolio submissions. This then excludes wider audiences outside of the institution – it excludes non-believers.

A problem glares: access. For an individual to be a believer, they must have access, access to text, tours, study, and time. So, at what point does the text become inaccessible insofar as the work being inaccessible? The need for explanation in any field serves as a barrier for misuse, but to protect art in this way goes against a core aspect of art; that anyone can do it. This does not mean everyone wants to – not everyone wants to read about it either. But if you do, we invite you to come along and read.

Asako Ujita (ASP 8 2021-23) is showing a new work ‘Good Night’ T LUX from 18 June to 8 August 2026.

LUX is delighted to present the first solo exhibition by artist and filmmaker Asako Ujita, featuring her new film ‘Good Night’.

‘Good Night’ is a phrase spoken to a child before sleep, and to the dead before parting. Ujita’s film sits in this space where endings and beginnings overlap.

Made during Ujita’s pregnancy with her first son, ‘Good Night’ journeys to southern Taiwan where her great-grandfather had lived during the Japanese occupation. Known to her through a single postcard, he becomes an invisible guide through lakes, forests, caves and country roads.

Holding a tension between the landscape’s beauty and the colonial violence it contains, Ujita surfaces what the land holds and what it refuses to reveal.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a screening event programmed by Emma Boubara responding to the exhibition. The film will be available with open captions by Carefuffle.

Further details are to be announced via the LUX website.

Mohammed Adel (ASP 8 2021-23) will be showing in the 2026 graduate show at the Royal Academy Schools.

The Royal Academy Schools show is free and runs from 12 – 28th June 2026. Open Tuesday–Sunday from 10am–6pm, with later opening on Friday til 9pm. Closed on Mondays.

Mohammed Adel (b. 1997, London, UK) previously studied at Camberwell University of Arts. He is a painter interested in personal history and the interior as witness to it, his approach to the subject matter strikes a balance between presenting the personal and intimate yet at the same time, withholding, dealing with how much we should give and how much can be given within his personal limits around explicit expression. His surface making and colour instil an intangibility, the presence of something unanswered and unaccounted for, creating questioning around the history, the figure, the objects and his intentions.

Teaspoon Projects is delighted to announce that we will be participating in Basel Social Club 2026, presenting three new works by friends and collaborators Lily Bunney (ASP 7 2020-22) and Elleanna Chapman.

@basel.social.club returns for its fifth edition from June 14 – 20, 2026, transforming a vacant multi-story office building in central Basel into a temporary social stage for art during Art Basel week. This year’s edition, titled 𝓞𝓯𝓯𝓲𝓬𝓮 reconsiders the venue not as a site of production, but as a space for reflection.

The newly commissioned work by Bunney and Chapman responds to the theme with pop-cultural icons, political satire, rhinestones, romance, and digital image-making, examining how public femininity is shaped by systems of production and consumption.

𝓞𝓯𝓯𝓲𝓬𝓮, Basel Social Club, 14-20 June in Basel, Switzerland.
