Shades of Women
"The Colors Within"

A woman’s physical appearance is just the tip of the iceberg. The use of diverse colors in the painting—deep blue, vibrant yellow, intense red, and calm green—represents a rich tapestry of her inner emotions. It highlights her joy, her struggles, her strength, her vulnerability, and the countless layers that make her a complete individual.

“Shades of Women” celebrates the many identities a woman embraces, reminding us that she is never just one colour, one role, or one story. She is a beautiful blend of everything she has lived, loved, overcome and become. 💙🧡💗💚

Shades of Women

Unspoken Shades

Behind every woman’s smile lie emotions that are often left unspoken—strength, vulnerability, dreams, struggles, love and resilience.
“Unspoken Shades” is an expression of those quiet emotions, brought to life through bold colours and abstract forms. Each shade reflects a feeling, and every expression holds a story that words may not always tell. #astitvabyanjali #astitva #shadesofwomen by @astitvabyanjali

Title: Unbound Skies

The painting draws on the silent struggles of women whose gifts are bound by tradition and marital expectation. The bold use of red weaves through the work to symbolize both the binding of wedding rituals and the flaming restraint. It is a meditation on yearning and defiance, a tribute to those who gather the courage to untangle themselves from appointed roles, rise beyond constraint, and let long-hidden dreams soar high like a kite.

Shades of Women
"Some stories are not spoken. They simply look back at you.”
Look into her eyes and you will see more than beauty
A little innocence, a little pain,
a spark of hope, a world of dreams.

You will see the dreams she protects,
stories she never tells,
and shades of herself
the world may never know.

HER QUIET IS LOUD
She lives in greys, her own world muted — yet she gives color to others’ lives. The vivid hues around her symbolize the joy and warmth she creates for those she loves, even when her own light fades. The red bindi, a symbol of marital devotion, also reflects her quiet sacrifice — a tradition borne by women alone, marking her love, her duty, and her strength. In her stillness lies power; in her silence, resilience.

Women as Muse

Arrival by M.F. Husain upon artistic speculation depicts youth of a faceless woman and their replacement with the passing of age.

Although Husain is rightly celebrated for his use of motifs and narratively rich paintings, his depiction of women and their nudity seems most insincere and uninspired.

Arrival seems to propose the idea of women's youth as her only identity which is not only highly traditional and conservative but problematic too.

I will be posting women as muses to highlight how evident and ingrained the patriarchal male gaze is in our paintings and then some powerful women artists and how they represent the womanhood in paintings. You will see the difference yourself.

Virasat Diaries | Kangra — Art, Culture & Timeless Beauty
The Laxmi Narayan Temple in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, is the spiritual heart of the region. Built in the 10th century by Raja Sahil Varman, it is the largest and oldest temple complex in Chamba, famed for its striking blend of classical North Indian architecture and indigenous Himalayan craftsmanship.

The Complex: Six shrines in a row are dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. A prominent metallic statue of Garuda (Lord Vishnu's mount) stands watch at the entrance.

Intricate Reliefs: The temple pillars and exterior walls are covered in detailed stone carvings and reliefs depicting stories from Hindu mythology.

Center of Chamba Craft: The temple’s presence anchors the broader art and culture of Chamba, which is renowned for its unique Chamba Rumal (hand-embroidered handkerchiefs influenced by Kangra painting), metal crafts, and wooden handicrafts. by @astitvabyanjali
