My mom was my home.I had a whole world to see and wanted to be anywhere but home growing up. She wanted to be home and always left a space for me (and my friends) to come back to and I did, I always did. I have spent time every day in my mom’s house since she passed because it still feels like she is still here when I am there. She was my balance in life. I live a life where it feels like everyone knows my dad and only my closest friends in life knew my mom. She never talked about soccer but often wore a Cougars hoodie with pride, told countless strangers I was the coach and commented on every Facebook post wishing the team good luck. She was so proud of me in absolutely everything I did, she was grateful for the time we spent with her, she was thankful for the things I helped her with and she loved me so much. She told me those things all the time and I mean ALL THE TIME. She was my compass. We were complete opposites and I knew and loved that. It helped me trust and know myself more. She was so easy to make happy and make smile. She was always the place that felt safe and welcoming. She was my true north. I knew where to go if I ever needed anything. When I saw her become “Oma” I watched a light and love come pouring out from her that I never knew existed. Her love for Atlund was so pure, so gentle and so special and I felt her love grow for me once I became a Mom. She would often tell me or text me that I was a good mom. Atlund was her “Sunshine”. I don’t think I have a photo over the last 5 years where he isn’t sitting on her lap or right by her side. When we lost David 3 years ago - I saw her heart break losing the love of her life. I am thankful that I could be her support and help her through that difficult time. She handled everything with such grace, gratitude and patience. She was kind to herself and moved forward slowly.
