My final film! I want to thank everyone I met at CSSSA! Everyone was so kind and passionate 🥹❤️

I’m not the most well spoken, but I wanted to say a few things about my film and its process. During this program, I learned a lot about being vulnerable. I noticed it is something I have avoided with my art. I think for many, It is much easier not to share themselves with the world.

But making this animation challenged me. It was such unique timing, where I felt like I had to let something out, and CSSSA gave me the tools to do just that.

It was easy for me to feel emotional and guilty. At many points, I had to separate the characters of my film from who I was dedicating it to. I didn’t like how that felt.

In the end, I finished the film. And afterwards, I didn’t know what to do..?

I was so proud to have completed it, but my feelings were still a question to me. I expected to feel better.

When I hear: cathartic release, I think of something immediate. I thought that after I made this film, I would feel a weight lift off of me.

As my film screened in the MOD, and every time after that, when I thought about my film, it was the opposite. I felt everything, and more intensely, the longer it played, and especially as people watched.

Even now, my chest feels very tight.

When I watched my film play, I cried. I cried and then, afterwards other people told me that they cried. Other people told me that this film meant something to them.

I wondered: is this the catharsis? I don’t think I came in with a specific intent, except that in the end, this film had become an expression of how I felt about my friend. My fondness of her, and my frustration. If other people could feel that through my work, wasn’t it relieving to finally hold this weight I had with other people?

People have told me there isn’t one way I should feel while grieving. I’ll try to understand that more as I move forward! I miss my friend Katria! She was a great friend! I still think about her often! That is okay.
