It’s so so hard to find words that can come close to the complexity of the 41 years I got to spend with my dad. I’ll say this, though: he hated how much time people spent staring at screens, and he often felt isolated by how much our society has shifted to digital communication.

If you’re in a room right now with someone you love, put your phone down and tell them you love them. Surprise them with a moment of joy.

If there’s no one in the room you can say it to, excuse yourself to a private place and call someone you love. Don’t text, call. Tell them you love them.

Over the last few years I’ve gotten more closely involved with the @ncrarebeer tasting. This year, we decided to shift our support to the @mjfbrewdistill Check them out and the amazing work they are doing in an industry where it’s badly needed.

Repost: A few weeks ago @ncrarebeer gathered their peeps in a tent on a frigid day in the Historic Durham Athletic Park to taste donated very rare beers. After a ton of work by some good folks, the 10th Annual NC Rare Beer Festival sold out and it was ON!

100% of the proceeds, $5000, went to the MJF to uphold our work providing scholarships for technical training in brewing and distilling for people of color.

Today I’m sending out a check to a brewing schools for $3000 for a course for one of our MJF awardees (and they’re slaying it). Classes at brewing schools around the country literally LOOK different this year because of our programs and programs by other groups out there doing the work to bring inclusion and diversity to brewing.

We at the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing and Distilling want to thank Daniel Kulenic and all the fine people who braved the cold and came out to support us. You guys are making a genuine difference, and right now.
