Grad community, we’d love to see you tomorrow!

As part of the schedule established at our first meeting of the semester, GSA will hold its second meeting tomorrow.

We’ll be discussing the Chancellor’s Travel and Research Grants as we work toward finalizing the details and opening applications soon, along with other GSA updates and priorities for the semester.

A few weeks ago, the Graduate Student Assembly held its first At-Large meeting of the semester, welcoming Interim Chancellor Katherine “Kathie” Ankerson as a special guest.

But what can we remember from this gathering?

Among the smiles and conversations were important questions about the future of UNL’s academic community, alongside Executive Committee members working to provide answers, resources, and support for graduate students.

Interim Chancellor Ankerson spoke about the cost of maintaining a strong university reputation, particularly as graduate students continue to navigate budget cuts, funding concerns, and stipend-related challenges. At the same time, discussions around principles, policies, bills, and future initiatives offered some hope for continued progress.

ASUN’s newly appointed advisor, Alexis Blasko, also shared plans to strengthen collaboration between ASUN and GSA and continue building support for graduate students.

Five new bills were introduced during the meeting. Among them was a new Graduate Student Assembly Recognition Event honoring recipients of the Chancellor’s Graduate Research Grant from previous semesters. The recognition event will be held in two sessions.

And the graduate community has more to look forward to.

The Open Mic is coming back! A familiar space for graduate students to share, connect, and enjoy the creative side of our community will be returning this semester.

Tonight, “Letters to Lincoln”, a collaboration with the Lincoln Commission on Human Rights and the City of Lincoln, will also take place at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center from 5:30–7:30 p.m., bringing students and community members together for an evening of conversation and reflection.

From conversations about the future of graduate education to new opportunities for recognition, creativity, and community engagement, the semester is already moving forward; one conversation, one bill, and one initiative at a time.

Every semester, every season, we’re blessed to witness something truly special: the growth, accomplishments, and graduation of another generation of graduate students.

Another unforgettable GSA Summer Social! ☀️

Our 2026 GSA Summer Social brought together graduate students and families for an afternoon filled with great conversations, laughter, and community.

It was wonderful to see so many familiar and new faces connecting over delicious food, sharing research, exchanging experiences, and building friendships that make our graduate community stronger.

As we begin a new chapter, we’re excited to welcome our new GSA President, Swarnima, and look forward to the opportunities and initiatives this new leadership will bring.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event such a success. Your presence is what makes the Graduate Student Assembly more than an organization: It makes it a community.
