The empty chair sits,
Silent as the day you left it,
A quiet testament,
to where you used to be.
The sun once shined reflections off the table
Dust settling around, now clouding the image unstable
where your hands would rest whilst looking across to me.

I still remember our talks,
to regale the tales of my strange life,
Of which you would laugh, cry, rarely a dry eye
You’d listen with care of my victories and strife.
But then the air thickens,
My breath beginning to wither,
As if an unseen beast attempts to cease my light,
A comfortable discomfort, I shake with a somber anger.
a wave that steals my breath, I lose the strength to fight.

They say time heals.
But time just marches on,
leaving me further behind,
Chasing the memory of a time long gone.
The chair remains,
empty, a silence filling the space,
A constant yearning for the past,
One more story to tell in our place.

But sometimes, in the echoing silence
I hear your voice, like a gentle whisper,
Bringing me home to tell you a story never told.
The chair doesn’t seem so empty,
For I still feel you there.
Like a warm hug,
a promise to find peace someday, somewhere,
In this empty chair, your love I will forever hold.

This was my first time back in a dance class in about 4 months! Kicked my but, but was so much fun and what I needed today!
