POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A British mockumentary, with an outrageous Lady played by Sian Clifford (whom you probably remember as Fleabag’s older sister).

I almost immediately decided that the best pairing for the eponymous aristocrat would be an English sparkling rosé.

So here are five – all from wineries I’ve actually visited, and wines I’ve been lucky enough to taste.

Oxfordshire – Hundred Hills
Wiltshire – Domaine Hugo
Dorset – Langham
Kent – Davenport
West Sussex – Sugrue South Downs

All of them are traditional-method sparkling rosés.

#lady

HUNDRED HILLS – Preamble Rosé, Oxfordshire

If any English winery gives proper Oxford energy, it’s Hundred Hills. Polished, elegant, serious.

Not quite centuries of history, but definitely the style.

I had the privilege of being shown around by the founder, Stephen Duckett, and was pretty excited about it.

He planted this beautiful valley from scratch after years of searching for the right site.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 18 months on lees. Very precise.

DOMAINE HUGO – HUGO Rosé, Wiltshire

A tiny, quite unique biodynamic project in Wiltshire – and the previous Rose is probably sold out by now, so I’d recommend looking at the new releases.

Hugo Stewart previously co-founded Les Clos Perdus in the Languedoc before returning to his family farm. Domaine Hugo is now certified organic and biodynamic, and is part of Renaissance des Appellations.

This is a low-intervention and reeeeeally interesting wine.

LANGHAM – Rosé NV, Dorset

Probably the producer here I know best: I pour Langham almost every day at work.

We don’t open the rosé as often, so every time I taste it I have this little reminder of how good it actually is.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Pinot Meunier.

The winemaking is very much inspired by grower Champagne: spontaneous fermentation, old oak, oxidative handling and very low dosage.

DAVENPORT – Limney Sparkling Rosé, Kent

I thought this was supposed to be the bottle I’d actually drink while watching The Lady – because I brought one home after visiting Davenport and it’s still waiting for me.

Will Davenport planted his first organic vineyards 30 years ago, long before English wine became fashionable.

Did you hear the theory that water somehow changes its structure depending on the music?

It’s the second reason why I’m always particular about what music I listen to when I make my morning coffee.

A year ago, I went to Copenhagen to do a canal swim. I wanted to show someone the photos recently and realised that I’d never posted any of them. So here is a photo dump from this small and wonderful trip, aged for one year.

A two-kilometre canal swim is my favourite kind of distance. Cool enough for a wetsuit, but comfortable enough to genuinely enjoy it. I never new that Copenhagen have almost as many canals Amsterdam, except they’re slightly wider and significantly cleaner.

The swim @copenhagen_swim was brilliantly organised, with lots of different starting waves. Some people even swim at night with lights inside their inflatable tow floats.

@copenhagen_swim

Christiania is very touristy, but it seems some locals still live there. I was told it has definitely become much quieter since the street sale of weed was banned.

I stayed in a really atmospheric Airbnb in a very old building, with an amazing host who is a jewelry designer and music producer.

After the swim, I tried a very Nordic modern pastime: saunagus. It’s somewhere between a rave and a guided meditation — the perfect thing to do after a swim like this.

Copenhagen is, of course, a food capital. Although after all the cardamom buns in Kyiv and London, even the original Danish ones struggle to surprise me, but the coffee at Prolog was excellent.

Beautiful glasshouse belonging to the most famous restaurant in the world, which we would not call by name.

La Banchina looks like the quintessence of Copenhagen, but too busy for me that day.

Not a real swimmer

Several people had recommended Restaurant Barr to me, and this schnitzel lived up to every expectation. It was very, very good.

But the most wonderful thing is finding your people. Ending the evening with Sofia and going on Appolo probably turned an already brilliant day into my best day of 2025.

🩷❤️

We finished in a Bo-Bi Bar oldest and most iconic “brown bar” traditional bodega and drinking something really unique.

A crisis is when the old ways no longer work, and the new ones haven’t been invented yet – i I heard this somewhere on a psychology podcast, and the quote has been stuck in my head for the last few months before my birthday.
Instagram was invented a way of keeping little photopostcards and this is a 2-weeks-latergram.

Every birthday feels like a moment for reflection, and I always remember that when you try to run away somewhere, you still bring yourself with you.

This time, though, I’m genuinely very happy with my idea. Edinburgh is brilliant, and escaping the heatwave was definitely the right call. Nadya (thank you!) is the perfect adventure companion — already been in Odesa, Pushcha-Vodytsia, Paris, and now Scotland.

My restaurant list is usually far too ambitious for any trip, but The Palmerston was exactly right for the birthday dinner, and 25£ lunch at Michelin-Guided Cardinal was such a great experience.
A shared love of cemeteries is basically one of the foundations of our friendship, so finally exploring Greyfriars felt very important.

In high season, we definitely need to book Edinburgh Castle well in advance but we had it right outside our window.

A mini-hike up Arthur’s Seat, churches, antic-shops, palaces and ruins.
It’s so great when you travel with someone whose idea of a good holiday just matches yours. by @asyabond007

I love London, but escapes to the sea are one of the essential things in my life. The seaside is about an hour and a half by train. Brighton is the biggest and closest option, and the place I’ve been to the most. Sometimes a bit too much loud, but I’m always happy to go there.

Today was a not so easy day, and I ended it in one of my favourite Brighton places, @plateaubrighton . Small plates, natural wines, cocktails. One of the co-founders has a winery in France. They’ve been doing this for about 15 years now. I’ve been there maybe 7 times, and every single time it feels like home.

Once, I left my phone and my clothes there while I went for a swim in the sea.

When things aren’t easy, going to the sea helps.
And having places where you feel at home helps too. taken in Brighton by @asyabond007

Voulez-vous danser avec moi ?
