I’ve been back in the states for almost a month now, so I feel like it’s probably time to share my abroad takeaways and continue on with my life🥸 SO..

Here’s me: at the end of my study abroad experience, in the middle of it, and all the way back at the very beginning. Three very different versions of myself, all shaped by the craziest and most rewarding four months of my life.

Studying abroad came into my life at the exact moment I needed it most. It pushed me, challenged me, and completely rewired me into a new version of myself.

The first semester of my junior year was one of the hardest patch’s of life I’ve been in. I lost myself and it felt like I was quietly fighting a battle everyday that consumed me. I’ll forever be proud of myself for taking the leap and chasing the change I so desperately needed.

Going abroad taught me more than I ever could’ve imagined. It’s taught me about myself, the people I want to surround myself with, the importance of family, what it feels like to be alone, distance, perspective, and ultimately the kind of life I want to build.

Life feels bigger now, in the best way possible. The world is so incredibly cool, vast, beautiful, and endlessly interesting. Stay present. Be where your feet are. Notice the small things, and appreciate what once felt ordinary.

Life isn’t nearly as serious as we make it out to be. What’s there to lose?

I’ll forever be thankful for this experience bringing back a confidence in myself I didn’t realize I’d lost. I’m still growing, but I hope to bring all that I’ve learned back home with me, so I can feel even the slightest bit like I’m back in Florence. by @atadmoreryry
